of course it's true, the pc has to encode the image as a data stream, send it to the network card, then to the router, then over the wifi to the headset which then has to decode it and display the image, that takes a lot of time to do

that doesn't take much more time, because it has to do send it to usb controller too
>which then has to decode it and display the image
It has to do it even with the cable, once again.

Pretty sure oculus ingame dashboard shows exactly the same numbers for wired/air link, so your "feels more snappy" could just be placebo. Test it to get the hard numbers, it's pointless to speculate beforehand.

Great software and has everything you need to tweak it but in my experience there's no getting around the macroblocking on things like textures in the distance. No matter what I did I could not get it to look good at a distance or get it to stop hitching once every 10-15 seconds (again, under ideal network conditions with proper equipment)

Can push the headset to it's max capabilities with the help of Oculus Tray Tool. Don't have to worry about latency, don't have to worry about lost detail in dynamic bitrate adjusting. Downsides are that theres GPU overhead with the USB encoding and the headset doesn't charge fast enough for the headset to stay on indefinitely.

Make sure to hold your gun steady when doing the AK bump. I find holding the mag sideways is the most consistent but the thing that matters most is moving the mag and not your gun.
Unlike the HK slap it actually has some tactical value; If an enemy spooks you when starting to reload from a partial mag you retain the option to shoot more than just the one round in the chamber. It's also just as fast as a normal reload for me.
It works on both the mini AK and AS Val too.

You need to be properly aligned so that the bomb will be capable of reaching the vehicle. Think of it like using dumb bombs but they're smart. Flying over your target level or at an attacking angle should be able to get you to be able to fire. There'll be a message telling you "Shoot" or "Fire" when you can. Holding the trigger will automatically release it as soon as it's capable.

It does not work like that. Wireless video streaming has too many variables to deal with.

Welcome back racer!
EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club, season 5!
Race 29. Last race of this season, taking a little break!

18:00 UTC, 20:00 CET, Monday 8th of August.

ITALIAN DAY!

We haven't done this in a while... 2 class race Lancia Fulvia vs Alfa Romeo GTO. Beat up race track in Macedonia - Kičevo.

1 hour practice, 15 minutes qualifiers, 12 laps race.

Then do some scenic cruising at a French map - Charade on a selection of great Italian cars.

mods:

https://mega.nz/folder/O3IQwRZR#Z7WXjP9Giq8MPJJdwYTSyg

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Asseto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html and a mod installer (just drag and drop zip files from mega).

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.

Generally you just grind in the starting areas until you got enough cash. It really sucks though, the makarov is fucking terrible. But if you have enough for a glock or a PSH-18 then these areas are easy to sweep. Sweep the low resistance areas for artifacts and some loot in the two starting areas, and go check the substation just left of the village -> greenhouses area (there is a silver chest that spawns sometimes and you can get there without needing to kill anything) and you can build up enough recovery cash.

Really hate how much smaller the world feels in Into the Radius these days since the v2 update. Pessimist would have said it's because they want a Quest port, but the reality probably is due to how jank the game was already, that they had to compartmentalize it to make things easier on themselves to develop it further.

As much as I love the v1 map it definitely feels like they bit off more than they could chew.

My main problem with the new maps that they are so...sterile. Everything exists because there'll be an objective there. There are no out of vew hidden cool shit like the radio that makes the weird noise or the hands in the shower, no places that have no purpose for you to go to except to just explore it like the harbor or the dorms. A last resort if you're really struggling for fps/frametimes. It does compromise the image with upscaling/sharpening etc. so I wouldn't just run it for the sake of it. Same with DLSS.

Fine if you can turn off the sharpening as most of the areas of an image that it tries to reconstruct you won't really notice the jank on a flat screen. In VR though it's different. The only net positive thing that I approve of is foveated rendering. It's a no brainer for performance. It's frustrating that Sony has built it into the hardware stack itself with PSVR2 but on PCVR it remains a patchy, hacky mess requiring thirdparty software and not all games support it. Hopefully Valve can pull this off with their standalone Deckard.

What's up with my Pavlov? Nearly every server I join that isn't a stock my my default spawn is always either underneath the map, stuck in geometry somewhere or in the enemy team spawn. It keeps respawning me there no matter what I do. It seems it has nothing to do with my playspace because my game has been fucked like this for years. Is this a known issue?

>Which VR game has the best gunplay?
People might shoot me for this, but Pavlov. H3 is autism tier for being in a gunrange and customisation but it's not actually a very good game and the dev is a wanker.

I agree. Despite its flaws, Pavlov's are the best designed for VR. The systems of Contractors and Onward have more artificial problems; it stops being more realistic when problems that don't exist in reality are created by the limitations of VR.
Anonymous No.394901135 Replies: >>394903515

It's literally the counter-strike of VR. Perfect balance between arcade shooting and just enough realism with the gun handling and mechanics for it to be physically satisfying but not jank. Looks clean, runs well, scopes look nice. My only complaint is that I would have expected the game to be more fleshed out considering how long it's been out for. The saving grace is the custom maps and modes but the actual game itself is still barebones. The customization menu has literally said "coming soon" for years.
Anonymous No.394902595 Replies: >>394923829

Pavlov nailed the vrfps controls and it took too long for others to copy them. H3VR in particular was awful because it was designed for vive wands until the dev finally gave in and reworked them.
The seperation of grip and interact into seperate buttons and the generous snapping make it easy to consistently reload without looking at your gun. That helps the game feel faster paced and less clunky.

Had my Rift CV1 five years here. First couple years were slow, but I treated it like a peripheral rather than a platform. If I had a game that would make use of the headset, I'd use it for that, just like I would my flight stick for flight titles, or my wheel for racing games. Just so happens there's a bit of overlap with VR and those controllers which is an added bonus.

Having played a handful of FPS shooters, I honestly agree. It's just the right blend of realism and gameplay/fun factor compromises. The shooting feels really good as well. I always keep coming back to Pavlov. I like it's slightly longer TTK than point and die of other games too.

My only major complaint is the thing has no gunstock calibration, unlike contractors, which makes certain guns a fucking mess to use. And from what's been said it's never coming. And the dev is kind of an asshole.

The controls were and still are absolute ass on vive wands. Dev fell way too hard into the "I know how it works" syndrome where it's so inconvenient and unintuitive it's a nightmare picking it up for the first time. And then of course it lacks any kind of tutorial on how to use anything so you have to figure out the controls by word of mouth.

Every quest game Meta advertises they show it running at a higher resolution than it actually runs or with copious amounts of motion blur in the trailers to hide the fact that running the actual game INSIDE the headset looks like a scuffed late-gen n64 game running at 480p. Meta even false advertises in their big promotional trailers advertising the Quest by showing the PC versions and deliberately not disclosing such (walking dead S&2 trailer). The games look fucking awful and their advertising is dishonest.

Maybe if developers make decent games that aren't just four hour demos, irrespective of how good hardware is. It's difficult to blow time in VR when even lower budget flat games can at least give you 10+ hours.

I haven't even mentioned COD and the like. I don't expect triple A production values. I recently played Northern Journey which despite being made by one dude in his free time in a cellar, is a large adventure game with lots of weapons, unique enemies, varying traversal methods, and a cool atmosphere that runs for ten hours. Cruelty Squad is another recent favorite that again just getting the ending will take you that much time, but it also has lots of secrets, extra endings, and large non-linear levels despite also being made with zero budget by one dude. And Ultrakill is another example of a cheap game with a tiny development team which isn't even finished yet, but has lots of unique content and very novel mechanics.

Going back to the original point, I just think that VR developers are too lazy as it is to make burning time in VR a thing outside of non-games like VRChat. It's my own fault for never figuring out how to mod Skyrim I suppose. But the absolute state of made for VR games is not pretty as long as the content in most VR releases are so thin.

The lowest I can get is 42.8ms on 2432x1216 at 120hz.
With 5408x2736 at 120hz the lowest was 44.8ms.

Another observation, bitrate doesn't impact app M2P latency at all as long as the router can handle it, I get exactly the same numbers up until 150mbps, then it starts to increase.

You can most definitely get some cardio from certain games. Beat saber is really map dependent on how much you'll move, but some can be pretty good. Pistol whip is a lot of squatting if you're playing above easy. Thrill of the fight is a lot of throwing punches and moving around. I don't think any of these games will be as good as a normal workout routine, but it's better than sitting on your ass. Also fix your diet if you're a fatty because that's one of the biggest things.

Any time I was falling for more than a second I'd get butterflies in my stomach. That's mostly gone too but it still gets to me sometimes. But I actually kind of like it. Doesn't make me sick, just gives me the tickley stomach for a moment.

1st week was hell, even playing Beat Saber was making me feel sick. I nearly refunded over it.
2nd week I tried sitting down and could finally play for more than 30 minutes a day.
By week 4 I was playing smooth locomotion games like Pavlov but moving fast in spectator mode still made me queasy.
After 2 months I was comfortable in any game. Only Boneworks on release with it's rubber band physics gave me trouble afterwards.
Inconsistent frametimes from low PC specs and having a lazy eye probably made getting my VR legs take so long.

Anyone have problems with their Quest 2 mics going out? I'm not too sure exactly where the problem lies or where to look to fix it. I've done a little poking around but haven't found the problem.

>Quest 2 via AirLink
>Mic works fine
>Take headset off and set it down to pop out for a cigarette or to pee or to get more lube or to see what the fuck the dogs are barking at
>Headset goes to sleep
>Put it back on
>Everything else works fine, but now the mic doesn't work
It doesn't happen every time though. Maybe 1 out of 3 times I take it off and put it down. Anyone else have similar issues?

I've been wanting this for years, and have been saying the core gameplay is already suitable for VR since it's all in-world rendered elements, no real menus, and the game already supports gesture concepts.

>>395189404
Obduction also supports VR, although it's a bit static in its implementation (can hardly interact with anything not relevant to puzzle solving).

There's Firmament coming (same devs) which is VR focused from the get go (like the Myst remake, although both support flat mode too), although I doubt it'll hit its original projected release of sometime-2022 at the rate things are going.

I don't understand this. The whole point of foveated rendering is that detail is reduced on the outer edges of a concentric circle to save performance on visual detail that is in the peripheral vision anyway. This just looks like it specifically supersamples the centre of the image, thus increasing even more demand on the GPU. I don't want to super sample at all, I want that to be handled by the oculus/steamvr runtime. I just want to gain perf by reducing visual information in the periphery where you won't notice it anyway.

I like the manual cleaning of weapons. Not too keen on the whole "disembodied voice directs you" crap and the baddies being composed of TV Static is meh. From what I've seen of let's plays all enemies are composed of that so it's not going to change. The radius is beautiful, but the lack of a jump or even mantling small objects is pretty immersion breaking. Opening cupboards and how you 'pinch' every object is tedious but I can pretend to smoke a cigarette, I guess.

Thank you for asking the question and then the answer, anons. The instructions were not good on that. I ended up just doing the "manual fire" on odd attack angles with the weapon switch button and trigger, but that makes more sense. The game makes enough sense and it's great, but the tutorials could be like 10% better.

Plus, it says at the end of that tutorial or the one before it'll walk you through transitioning between VTOL and jet mode, and then proceeds not to have that fucking tutorial. I figured it out with the given controls and context, but thought that was funny.

Doing this now with my Quest 2, the main issue is going through too many layers kn the Quest itself. It used to be an experimental feature, now its in the normal audio options, but has SEVERE lag past even anything Airlink does, and I think it's because it's trying to do too much at once.

The solution is putting your earbuds directly through the PC, and setting them as the output in-app. Like so:

1. Connect earbuds to PC. Optionally, set them as your main output device.
2. Put on headset
3. Turn your headset volume all the way off/to mute to deactivate the onboard directional speakers
4. Go into Airlink (Presumably, likely works with Link too)
5. (Optional) Go into Audio settings here if you want, set output from "Headset" to "Windows Default". Sometimes I have it work, sometimes not, don't really need this sound.
6. Go into SteamVR. Open the Steam menu, go to the 'Audio' tab under the settings to the right, and set output either as Windows Default, or as whatever your earbuds are listed as. It should give you the full input list from your PC, and they'll be there; Quest often sets the input/output automatically as "Oculus Virtual Headset" or whatever on launch.
7. This should do it! With the headset itself muted and this set, you should be streaming the audio directly to the buds, and the headset handles the game on its own.

With Airlink, I've found no lag this way so far, at least not past whatever Airlink naturally has, it syncs up. The technology really has come a LONG way, if you have a good router/wifi at least, and this way it's totally wireless. I'd been using a pair of studio headphones plugged through into the headset and this is still even better than having that wire/weight of the headphones alone to contend with. Being truly wireless like this is really freeing, especially with shooters/movement games, and I really can't imagine anything else anymore.

Hope this works. Have fun, anon.

True wireless, anon. Even one wire can be a hindrance for immersion, or if you're playing something where you do a fair amount of actions around your head or need to adjust your headset. Even just putting it on straight up and not having to feel around to plug in a wire once to go in/out helps. If I'm already dealing with battery life on the headset, ain't that much worse to content with earbud life too. Also depends on the buds/can be cost saving, because most people have wireless buds now, and not spending another $60 or whatever on the wired earbuds just for this or trying to contend with fitting full headphones on properly with a headset while still getting great sound quality compared to a $10 cheapo set you have lying around is handy. Plus, most come with decent mics now, too. If you're playing something sitting like ED or VTOL where you'd be wired in and stationary already it's one thing, and even more immersive in a sense to have everything plugged in/"helmet weight" on your head, but otherwise it's nice.

For instance, I've been playing a lot of Blade and Sorcery and actually do fencing in real life. Trying to use my muscle memory and real techniques gets real fucking annoying when hy headphones jiggle around or add weight to my head. Same with Pistol Whip when you bob and weave specifically with your head since it's the hitbox.

On the subjext of "near the head" actions, I loterally ended up getting halo protectors for my controllers just to be safe, but specifically because I kept whapping my headset with them when racking the bolt on rifles in H3VR when I started, kek.

I think it holds up pretty well. It has a really nice art style and good graphics, and the VR interactions are well done too. You can interact with your companions by physically tossing potions and food and such their way, and build rapport with them via gestures and making sure that you give them their favorite food. The puzzles aren't too hard, and there are a lot of them. There is an actual decent amount of content too, probably a few dozen hours worth. It follows an adventure game format where as you unlock new companions you can reach new areas that you couldn't earlier. The leveling in the game is done entirely via crafting materials, so similar to Alyx you will find yourself rooting around for items to bring back with you.

I think the more questionable part is that the melee combat is weightless so you can just waggle swords like they are nothing. The game is designed around parrying enemies special attacks, using your own special abilities, or using your companion's special abilities to break the "rune armor" of enemies before you can actually damage their HP by waggling them down. I didn't like it at first, but on Wrath difficulty where you have to be mindful of your resources it can be pretty satisfying. The mortal difficulty on the other hand which lets you damage armor without any of that is just mindless waggle and I wouldn't recommend it.

It's worth a torrent.

Pervomay you can get by with anything, swamp village you can get by with a decent pistol and plenty of ammo but probably want to start thinking about bigger guns, factory you need a decent gun with AP and prepare for long raid survival, bolotky you need the good shit but by then you know what you're doing. Initially I didn't like having the zones divided up but it makes the pacing of the game a lot more clear. In 1.0 it used to be every time you got a high priority mission you were getting good enough to handle everything you had seen before. Then you go in with like your usual kit and get your shit kicked in every time, realising the hard way that you need to be more prepared. The physical barrier of a fog wall and a loading screen into a new zone makes the threat of the unknown so much more tangible that you instinctively prepare more for it.

I'd say the voice recognition in VTOL VR is pretty solid. The only problem is they use set phrases instead of letting you ad lib a bit, as far as I know.
Having something that can decently guess your meaning, like personal assistants do, would be ideal.
Not sure what the business model is on those devices but I'm pretty sure they do at least some of the processing locally.

Any of the PC-to-Quest ports (official or otherwise) that are actually worth a damn owning for when you're away from your PC? Got a trip to my family coming up and I figure I'd bring my headset with me.

Pavlov Shack would have been a decent go-to for me if it wasn't 90% squeakers playing it. Devs should have charge $5 for the beta or some shit just to wall the majority of them. I'm going to get Quake 1 & 2's unofficial Quest ports installed at the least.

Nah they have onboard dedicated processing for their wake words, but all the natural langauge processing runs on cloud GPU farms.
IE they just record and upload everything for something else to process.
Its unironically really resource intensive to do anything other than set phrases and keywords

There is https://boneworks.thunderstore.io/package/GreasedScotsman/Melon_Vault_Showdown/ which is about it when it comes to actual campaigns. This game is not very good.
They just tried to translate VN to VR.
You spend a lot of time just standing and reading text, cannot move freely, the game just basically teleports you from scene to scene.
Also it's unity and fabulous japanese programming strikes again, so it's reprojection city.
Had a good laugh at sex scenes though.

Would have posted some webms, but screwed up the recording. Tough luck.

Huh? The inventory items were remolded and some dialogue was scrapped. Thats it. Everything else is literally the exact same. As good as it is you can definitely tell that its a port aside from the very well done inventory system. Cutscenes are a good reminding factor that its mostly a 1:1 port. Idk why you have a hate boner for pc games ported over to vr. Flatscreen games have and always will have higher budgets, better art direction and better talent working on them. A proper port or even a mod makes them plausible vr games that outperform games made for vr from the ground up

i literally just finished it right now, was playing through it last few days just after echo 1 and yeah i have some criticisms on echo 2 but it was vastly better than echo 1, the biggest upgrade was story telling, since in echo 1 you find out almost nothing about what is happening, to the point where it's sorta boring since you have noething to go on while in 2 it's a cool story line that kept me hooked.
I really hope to se more games like that.
Next in line will probably be WD for me

I didn't like these games that much honestly. The writing is so-so, but what makes it extra weird is how everything is scaled to be gigantic. It's hard to immerse yourself as a Japanese teenager if everything is a grossly different scale. Using SteamVR's scaling tool can't entirely fix things, and it causes the text to be way too small too which makes reading which is 99% of the game untenable.

Eg. Having a dedicated router in the room I plan to run the Quest in that's wired only to my PC, to give it the most bandwidth/least-latency compared to the other router I got kicking around that's directly set up to my internet.

You can't do magazine release, bolt release, fire mode, etc. in any sensible way with motion controls. They are effectively buttons on the gun even in real life. That already doesn't fit in the two face buttons standard, but there's a menu button too.
