Core mechanics; movement, shooting, destructible environment, are all good. Dev really only needs to iron his game modes out because there's not much to do. Improve AI, improve his random generated maps maybe, add some variations to his objectives, some actual doors and not these drywall barricade things would be great, etc

As for the graphics it's fine, stylized but not something I would call ugly, I would even go as far to say it's best this way with how emphasized destructible environment as a mechanic is in this game. Call that cope if you will though.

Finally finished the final quest for Into the Radius, spent a lot of time on sidequests to make money and buy supplies because I willingly played on highest difficulty. Great game. Guess I gotta do an ironman playthrough now.
On a similar note, Paradox of Hope seems promising as a not-Metro 2033 VR title. Maybe I'm the retard for dropping 20 bucks on a glorified demo at the moment, but the foundations of a good VR game seem there. Shame it's being made by just 1 guy, it's probably going to take years before it's totally finished

The game was in my wishlist, so I thought about buying it yesterday.
The first red flag was "early access" bullshit, I've expected a full game.
Then I've decided to watch the trailer on the steam page, when I saw how he just walked close to the enemy while pointing his flashlight on it without any reaction whatsoever until he started shooting, I just un-wishlisted and closed the page.

Armoured fragments have the highest HP of any killable enemy and armour just gives a chance for bullets to ricochet and do no damage. Slugs used to be 100% AP but now they're not. Also side note I'm glad they returned the fragment's weakpoint to their heart.

I've been playing it today. I'd post some webms if I hadn't forgot to turn buffer record on. I had some struggles with the controls but the gunplay is good, using the crowbar against manhacks also felt way better than I was expecting. More than anything it's just nice to have a singleplayer VRFPS that has long sections of gameplay.

Depends on what you're using it for. I keep my pistol as a cheap way of getting rid of unarmoured, light enemies. The OC33 has a huge mag and shoots the cheapest ammo in the game so I can get by carrying just one mag in the gun and occasionally using it to pick off spider spawns or fragments without biting into my primary's ammo or condition. If I want some more firepower I'll bring the glock and one spare mag for it though.

i also played boneworks and that didn't have much story, and i couldn't progress after encountering headcrabs. and i felt nauseous. though the interactivity was quite cool, if there was also a game there.

also i played walking dead vr, another big one, and it just had too much shit dumped on me in tutorial, i couldn't even remember how to do anything there. plus grapics were unappealing and the start of the game was jarring. if they started it like the walking dead adventure games and interface was simpler it could've been cool.

to me alyx was a dynamic as i could take. and i played touhou. if you're forced to navigate and shoot the game becomes overwhelming in vr, not because it's difficult, but because your irl body position interferes with movement. you can suppress this when you're concentrating on walking, not when you're trying to manoeuvrer. and teleportation breaks immersion.

that's exactly what it is though. take stalker - you have multiple mechanics there(artefacts, enemy groups, shooting, stealth, mutants, anomaly navigation, blowouts, plot, exploartion). in radius you walk around and shoot at black shit. that's it. the systems in the game just make interface less convenient because "muh realism". but you won't understand anyways.

you fundamentally don't understand gameplay. someone like you coded in the stupid fucking backpack into every vr game. do you know why backpack is fucking dumb? because people don't actually want to waste time with this "realistic" shit. no one wants a game where you have to walk somewhere for 30 mins irl, store your shit in a box n your garage, and no one wants a game where you manually put shit into backpack.

reloads in vr are cool because they're a part of combat. backpack isn't. it's just a thing to store loot in for fast access, because managing your shit is boring and tedious. anyone who moved house understands that.

observe how in morrowind people disliked the pauseable inventory, because you could just stop time and drink potions amidst combat, breaking said combat, but no one wanted realistic backpack interactions in stalker, since in stalker it was hard to access items in combat as it was.

While a lot of what this guy has said in this thread is thoroughly retarded I do agree with his general point that VR is lacking more fleshed out proper games.
VR has a problem where most of the games are essentially tech demos and/or sim sandboxes, I do enjoy some of them a lot like VTOL but I wish we would get more proper games like Alyx, though I would say Boneworks is one of those even if the story telling is extremely hands off.
It's not like VR is incapable of having these types of games it's just a result of the small and inexperienced dev teams that we have working on VR right now. We'll get bigger and better dev teams eventually but right now they are shifting to Quest where they are limited by the hardware.
My hope is that Quest's popularity will have people trickle into PCVR kinda like we had with consoles to PC.

A lot of people here prefer these empty tech demo type games, some people have hundreds of hours in H3 which I can't fucking understand but it does make sense that current VR would attract these people (autists), if you like those types 'games' VR is the place to be.

I get how people can enjoy ITR but it's still so far from what would really make a proper game for me.
My ideal VR game is still a high quality open world (doesn't have to be huge) with lots of interesting VR interactions (VR controlled: gathering, smiting, crafting, climbing, shooting, melee, vehicles). Interesting NPCs, side content like rolling physical dice at the inn, gambling with gold that you actually have to pull out of your pouch and a solid story to tie it all together.
IT'S KINGDOM COME VR. PLEASE GOD MAKE IT REAL, I BEG YOU.

Township tale has the problem of being entirely player driven. If you get someone experienced to tutor you through the world and mechanics, it's fucking amazing. If you're just trying to figure it out and explore yourself, it's tedious. The crafting mechanics are top notch and it makes full use of vr with pretty much every aspect but there's just nothing in it.

Standing is fine as long as you move a little. In VR you should be stepping and crouching more than enough. Most people just find standing excessively difficult because they've been trained to sit down 90% of the day. I started using a standing desk years ago and only sit down to drive and eat. I find sitting down for too long uncomfortable at this point.

some issues im having with hl2vr. the rotate-right stick position on my right hand barely registers and it's really souring the experience. i hope this is a deadzone issue and not the actual controller. i'm already using an RMA controller. is there a community binding for index chads we're using?

second thing is when i grab clips of ammo over my shoulder they straight up disappear. i'm talking like 1 in 8 tries i can actually spawn a new clip of ammo to shove into the gun. i finally realized this in some area where your hands have shadows. when i look down i realized reaching over my shoulder the new clip was spawning and immediately disappearing. this made the manual reloading aspect of the game anti-fun for me. the auto-reload feature works perfectly and i think i'll prefer to stick to that now.

very well could be the controller itself. i had heard the joystick switches to tend to die after a while, which is very fucked up for expensive controllers, thanks valve.

the ammo over the shoulder thing has been really gaslighting me. i was thinking there's no way they shipped this when the deadzone to grab ammo this small and unreliable.

also i attached that image to my prev post but forgot to explain that the phys gun disappeared upon loading ravenholm. i had to spawn myself a new one.

for those that are playing hl2 vr if you didn't already you should probably edit this file. i changed the resolution and refresh rate to match the index. add -tickrate and your headset refresh rate, otherwise it defaults to 720@60. this lightens the physics issues a bit, and it runs smoother of course.

SET params=-w 1600 -h 1400 -tickrate 144 -novid -condebug -windowed -high -refresh 0 -noasserts -hushasserts -dxlevel 98 -steam -game hlvr

The greenhouses one is especially neat since it is a higher level crate.

Best part about the pump is the bigger mag and easier reloading. I main the spas12 (upgraded to 12 round cap) and will take it to clear out the first three zones on the first day of tide then work backwards to loot. Wouldn't trust a shotgun in kolhoz but buckshot for unarmoured and slugs for armoured is all you need. Most enemies can be two-tapped with it. Keep yourself light, run in fast, shoot first, and leave a grenade for the stragglers.

i got motion sickness from the HL2 chase in the beginning. Now i even feel sick and begin to sweat when i slowly walk. Is HL2 worse than some other games regarding this?
What can i do to overcome motion sickness? I am new to vr, did not have much problems until now and the first steps in VR in general.
I also have a bad gpu, could this also be a reason?

Don't try to push through it, you fucking retard.
Stop immediately when you feel dizzy or you gonna make things A LOT worse, to the point of not being able to play VR at all.
Short bursts often, while gradually increasing the play sessions.

No what's messed up is that your only options are an Index, a G2, and a Varjo, the first two being not that worth, and the third way out of your budget. I'm in a similar boat as you, except I have a G2, and I'm not sure what kind of experience you'll get with it's underwhelming tracking and a 3070 in these games, since I only play simracing games. I'm also waiting for something new to come out and upgrade as soon as possible. I guess the G2 is your only option, as long as you understand it's not that good of a headset and it's resale value might not be good at all. Also never buy a used G2.

If you're getting motion sickness from the beginning of the game I'd probably try playing something else to get more settled in and get your vrlegs. Swimming and driving sections will not be a good time for you.
In general, the best way to overcome motion sickness in VR is to continue using it regularly. Play up until the point where you start to get uncomfortable, then stop and come back to it later. You don't want to push too hard and start to associate VR with that sick feeling.

depends a lot on "almost new". the wear points to check are the controllers and the cable. I'd say it's worth it if the seller used it for less than ~100 hours, otherwise you may have to follow it up with a new cable or controllers anyway. the headset itself is fine used though. modulo sweat soaked into the fabric, which you can also replace gasket and stuff if you care.

The term "room-scale" has always been incredibly misleading. It also no longer serves any purpose and should be retired. Tracking is on the system level so it doesn't make sense for software to be tagged as "room-scale". For instance, Beat Saber is tagged as "room-scale". You're not even supposed to move around in Beat Saber. Whether or not a game supports "room-scale" tracking is entirely dependent on your hardware and VR software. Plus, the name is misleading. "Room-scale" just means "really big play area" or "customizable tracking range". There is no "scaling" going on. There is still playable game space outside your physical playable area. There are a tiny handful of titles that are truly "room-scale" and this overused term does a huge disservice to them.

early on valve had this stupid idea that "you shouldn't move players in vr without them moving rl because it makes people sick" and "your vr hands and your real hands should always be in the same position 100% of the time" which is the reason alyx had no smooth locomotion and manual ladder climbing originally and have no two handed and melee weapons
which is true if you're new to vr and susceptible to motion sickness but it's nothing that people can't overcome and these design philosophies heavily limit in what you can do in vr

A word of advice: familiarize yourself with which weapons to get and which ones to avoid, and more necessarily how to plant/defuse the bomb. SnD is the most competetive gamemode and people will get pissed with you if you let the bomb blow up because you don't know how to defuse (or lose the match because you don't know how to plant).

hl2vr has manual reloading implemented in a way that feels buggy and unfinished. whenever i grab over my shoulder, the ammo clips spawn and despawn most of the time, so that system ended up being unreliable to the point i shut it off. auto reloading felt way better for most weapons, but auto reload for the RPG is bugged and unreliable as well, especially when you're crouching. that ruined the strider battles for me and wasted quite a lot of my time. they should change that to just hold the button to reload.

the two-handed weapon thing also needs a little more work. all too often you're presented with a situation where you know your best weapon is the SMG, but the next situation is beyond a door. if you want two-handed weapons, you should really cut down the amount of doors you need to manually activate to progress. trying to let go of the two handed weapons felt like trying to shake a sticky cumsock off your hand. fix that and cut down on the doors and that will work a lot better.

ladder climbing feels like shit in every VR game and is an unwelcomed chore that just breaks immersion by being lame and shitty. any time you're reminded you're in a game, you're taken out of the virtual world. you're no longer thinking about your current task, but how to mechanically bypass it. the auto mode for that also feels just as clunky and shitty as it does in the base game. a third option to just teleport through the ladder with a fade to black would help a lot.

also as i'm walking around i'm constantly grabbing props without realizing it. i can't count on my fingers how many times i realized i couldn't sprint and it was because i was unknowingly dragging a dead body behind me, or i couldn't activate an object because there was a crate shard glued to my hand. they need to raycast grabbing to only the cones of vision from the player's perspective. HL:A has this down pat.

they should be hard copying half-life Alyx on this one. that's where all our expectations lie.

there might be something with your grip buttons or bindings
that would also explain despawing ammo clips because clip goes back into backpack if released
for me reloading felt as natural as alyx except missing hand models on some weapons and rpg, hitbox on that one is indeed a little wonky
and i think grav gun when holding something should give you crosshair like on boat/car machine gun

worlds apart. Alyx felt so finely polished i couldn't compare it to anything else. hl2vr's weapon system needs serious work. also have to mention the weapon wheel should be raycast upside to your vision. too many times i opened that menu it was in a position i couldn't see or access all of the weapon slots.

once they've ironed out everything to the point it's reliable; easily 10/10 mod.

my index controllers are well-used and one is an RMA replacement. don't want to find out these things last 1-2 years/1K game hours tops before they start fucking up but that seems to be true.

>there might be something with your grip buttons or bindings
i haven't seen anyone else complaining about the reload system like me so that could be true. it feels like it's functioning perfectly fine, however i still think i have a point. if a system is so rigid it can't work with partially-functioning controllers then perhaps it's too rigid.

i have a tendency to grip where one finger sticks out and doesn't contact the controller. does that mean that the ammo is requiring contact from five fingers? how about a minimum of two? or one? how about it glues itself to the hand until it goes into the gun? hypothetical examples of the changes i'm hinting at, still could be my issue, i couldn't figure it out.

i beat the game so i haven't tried yesterday's patch yet. hopefully they'll fix everything to the point i have no petty complaints.

You would think that with motion interpolation that VR devs would be adding in DLSS3 to compete with and outdo ASW on Quest and the interpolation on PSVR. Instead, much like DLSS2 and even AMD's open source equivalents, they will continue to force us to use shitty bilinear upscaling and SteamVR's wiggly interpolation or nothing. Even triple A VR games largely don't bother which is sad. It's just the tip of the iceberg of VR devs being lazy+no gaems in general.

More VRAM will be nice for more HD texture mods in Skyrim at least.

this is a problem with the index controllers in general imo, you either have it set to grab on touch and constantly grab shit by accident or you set it grab on squeeze and you'll have to keep squeezing it constantly when you have to hold something

after switching form the rift s to the index, the one thing i miss the most is a dedicated grip button (apart from replacable/external batteries)

>normal games with vr mod
I play like one of those but

Good games I played for a year before buying anything else
>Beat Saber (especially modded)
>Pavlov
Mods of existing games
>RoR2 (works well)
>Dirt rally/2 (never got this to run well or look good to be fair, others seem to have better luck)
>Ass Corsas
>Elite Dangerous (I think)
Picked up later
>VTOL VR
>ITR
>Pistol Whip
>Compound
Other shit people like that I haven't bothered with
>Bonerworks
>VRC if I could call that a game
>No Man's Buy in VR
>DCS
>SteamVR if VRC counts as a game
>Blade and Sorcery
>In Death (didn't like it personally)
>Until You Fall (got repetitive but has potential)
>Alyx

And from those first two games I got more entertainment than I would on a $300 (okay $50 for strap) Q2 than for several straight generations of modern consoles. Hell I regret buying a Switch even because I just played Splatoon 2 on it which was good and Nintendo at least makes non SJW walking simulator exclusives but yeah I didn't think I'd get into VR this hard.

Typing this also if anyone needs games to look into, wouldn't write this much just for a shitpost. Now go tell me every game on there is apparently shit by copy pasting negative steam reviews and why it doesn't apply to what you like

Pretty much. For reasons I'm just interested in a narrow type of game which is competitive, involves developing skills in a non mindlessly grindy way and/or "here's some shit go make it work" esque genres where you build up a temporary character over time, e.g. BRs (christ I miss when pubg was relevant) and roguelites. Just not really into RPGs or sandboxy type stuff and also heard B&S was unfinished/lacking content or something.

There's reasons beyond preference not worth getting into
Anonymous No.400977943
>>400969996
B&S is trying to head in that direction. Every so often they tease stuff about player stats and their dungeon mode but right now it's not much. The dungeon is there - procedural generation of rooms as you move your way through some cliff side fortress but the nature of the game doesn't really leave much room for perks and gear treadmills. It's more on your own skill as a player that dictates your effectiveness rather than the gear you find in blade and sorcery.

I start to wonder what is more annoying, not having at button at all or having different mechanics in every game when it comes to one basic interaction in a shooter, to put more bullets in your lead pipe. On km press R, in VR figure it out while you have to deal with every other mechnic in the game, from physics over hmd tracking to lags. Its an arguably young medium and asking for standards might be much, but one can wish.

>having different mechanics in every game
We are actually improving in this aspect. HL2VR really showed it. Most vr games up until this point have had pretty random control schemes trying to figure out the best way to do it with no standardisation all while fighting with several different controllers and comfort options. It has been a long road but we're finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Most vr games made these days have the same reload mechanics, movement controls, and interactions and they all operate in a similar enough way that you can go from one game to the next without having to suffer. I am also glad that the insistence on teleport and vignetting is going away too.

Not much. Raw power isn't the issue at the moment since most people can't suspersample to a res where they'll actually need it in the forseeable future. DESU after using a lot of headsets I think 2K per eye is more than enough for a while. What's going to be more important to squeeze performance and greatly improve perception is proper foveated rendering with eye tracking and a return to OLED panels and wider FOV's.

Lots of braindead takes in the thread.
4090 is unironically a good card, from a technical standpoint, especially for VR.
It has 16k cuda cores, if properly utilized you can do things that were literally impossible before at playable framerates.
The reason we cannot have nice things is because retards keep buying trash and saying "good enough for me". Then devs go "oh, we cannot ignore such a large percentage of playerbase, I guess we will have to castrate the game now =(".
PCVR being cucked by quest-garbage was completely deserved. It really is a karmic retribution.

The 4080 12GB is a bad joke and you can already find some 3090s for similar prices and get double the VRAM, the 4080 16GB is only a marginal improvement and also even more expensive. For the 4080s? It's not much better. Per Nvidia's own cherry picked benchmarks of 3 games using no DLSS and using some guessing from their pisspor graphs, the 4080 12GB is equal to the 3090 TI or around 5-10% slower than it. The 16GB is < 25% faster, but the 4090 is actually a monster and upwards of +50-70%. Not the circled titles. RE8 has raytracing, but no DLSS, while the other two have no DLSS or raytracing and are pure rasterization. Exactly %'s are estimates from Nvidia's bad graph, but these are supposed to be the best case scenario and cherry picked to make it look good, which does not speak good things for cards below the 4090.

At high res, cuda core count translates to rasterizing performance better than one to one.
Look at this graph, take the 3090ti result and multiply it by 1.8.

Getting > 50% gains on the 3090 TI would be so much performance it'd legitimately be able to comfortably run almost any headset and game on the market at high settings and not need to spend a bunch of time fiddling and dialing things in. That's what gets me about the 4000 series. All of the benchmarks nvidia has shown are using raytracing and DLSS3 which don't apply to VR at all. You are paying extra for stuff that only matters with flat games which are hardly worth caring about anymore, newer triple A games only in this case. I still think that nvidia is better than AMD especially when it comes to VR, but raytracing and compute don't matter in that regard. I would like to be proven wrong of course and I hope that Babel Tech Reviews is able to get a hold of the new cards for benchmarking.
