If image in the headset looks blurry but fine on the monitor, increase your rendering resolution!
If you start to feel sick when playing, stop and have a rest. You'll get your VR legs eventually, just don't push it.

>Family members said the boy was intelligent and manipulative, and said no relative would agree to babysit him. The boy’s sister said he’d had “rage issues” his entire life. When he was four, his his mother’s sister said, he picked up his puppy by the tail and swung it around until it howled in pain. His mother eventually gave the dog away. Six months before the shooting, his sister said, he had filled a balloon with flammable liquid and set it on fire, causing an explosion that burned furniture in the house. She told police that when her mom asked the boy why he did it, he claimed “he has five different imaginary people that talk to him”: two sisters, an old man, an old woman, and a guy who is mean to him who he doesn’t like talking to.
>The boy had been seeing a therapist and had been given a “concerning diagnosis,” his sister told police. His mother was receiving daily updates on his behavior in school and had put up cameras in the house to monitor him. Two weeks before the shooting, she told the boy’s sister someone had unplugged the cameras.
>The morning after the shooting, the boy logged onto his dead mother’s Amazon account and ordered an Oculus Virtual Reality Headset. The aunt said that when he saw his grandmother crying later that day, he said, “I’m really sorry for what happened. I’m sorry for killing my mom,” then asked if his Amazon package had arrived.

Today I smoothed out a float that acts like a boolean because I am too dumb for real finger tracking.
float thumbSmoothed()

if (!(thumbAverage + thumbNext < 0) && !(thumbAverage + thumbNext > 1.0f))

I just entirely use my headset for Skyrim mods at this point. I spend hours banging my loli daughter-wives in between playing whatever new quest mods /tesg/ hypes up. It helps that the game keeps getting better with new VR mods like the immersive crafting one.

I'm still figuring out basics, so I'm not at the stage of making a game yet.

Halfway. You can physically grab and manipulate NPCs. Your upper body is never controlled by animations. However your lower body is usually controlled by a looping animation and the NPC outside of how you are influencing them is going to be looping. Nah fuck off, we don't need more of them controlling society. Most CEOs are psychopaths and it shows. Corporations are corrupt and do the most fucked up things with no consequences. They're playing propaganda photoshoot. Write a report saying how the VR training helped become cutting edge, take some photos, then put the headsets away and never actually do the training but definitely pocket the money they send for headsets.

it's cool but what's the point? why would you want to take out a part? can you upgrade parts with different stats? game looks realistic so i don't think they'd add something "gamey" like that, so why?

Why do I get the feeling that the majority of indie devs in VR are currently more building a portfolio they either hope to sell to a bigger studio or get hired for bigger games, nobody is apparently making because every game is an early access tech demo, with a few exceptions
>>409413929
It's a survival game, judging by this video:
https://youtu.be/Sp3oGG-3mbA
This here is true soul.
>>409413929
Because they're often solo devs with no oversight so they will jump between tasks and create new ones because nobody is there to keep them focused. It takes a lot of planning and restraint to consistently work on the tasks that are boring or have no immediate payoff.
>>409415146

Dave... the update...
How do I get immersed into motion? when I move ingame not by walking, it still kinda feels like a video game. I played jet island, and while it was fun I didn't feel the exhilaration that going fast irl would give you. I also feel no motion sickness whatso ever if that helps.
Immersion is a meme. Embrace the video game feel.
>>409439265
For me VR is about the greater possibilities the controls and head tracking provide over flat games. A game can't really trick you into believing you're actually in a different reality.

Society doesn't like to talk about it, but the truth is that the brain is defective from the start. It's got something to do with a combination of brain chemistry and personality type that dooms people from the start. Rarely do people ever go full nuclear because they were wronged at some point in their life. They usually exhibit psychopathic traits from the start.

Welcome back racer!
EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club, season 6!
Race 37.
19:00 UTC, 20:00 CET, Monday 5th of December!
We are now going to Suzuka circuit to drive one of the fastest racing cars in the world LMP1 prototypes!
1 hour practice
10 minutes qualifiers
18 lap race
Afterwards, we're taking hypercars to Shutoko Revival Project (the real one) on supercars, relax and speed to death.
mods:
https://mega.nz/folder/32JRiY5b#PtY8TeuWRUTU0pLLEv771Q
Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Asseto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html and a mod installer (just drag and drop zip files from mega).
For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.

Vr porn games are kind of underwhelming. Sure you can GRAB their titties, but you cant FEEL the softness, and you cant FEEL your hand running across their tummy. sure while you can have a sex doll irl and line it up IRL, It wouldn't be ONE TO ONE. and you would have to take off the headset to move the doll after it changes poses. There's not really "lightguns" for VR, there's tubes you slide your controllers into to help stabilize two-handed weapons.

Especially considering that VR development is much harder than pancake development, which is a fact, you cannot argue about that.
I find it very ironic that by trying to "save time" you are just wasting time even more. You will have to learn eventually anyway, might as well start right away.
Unity "dev" is just playing with poop.

>use that poop instead of this poop
You have to realize that 3rd party engines require more competence from the developer, not less.
Because you have to know 1. the fundamentals + 2. engine specific abstractions.
3rd party engines are good for big studios, so they can hire and drag-and-drop random devs without wasting time on teaching them.
If you start with 3rd party you are just shooting yourself in the foot from the very beginning.

This is pretty cool. I think we need a new wave of these portable pcvr backpacks. Pic rel could be a great candidate especially if the upcoming 4070mobile could match a desktop 3070

Unironically, one of the main reasons VR sucks so much.
>>409561127
Let me guess you spent several years in /agdg/ and purity spiralled into anything less than engine dev is absolutely unacceptable, but using an existing programming language (probably high level) and compiler to make it is arbitrarily fine because you personally don't want to do it.
>>409562409
>you spent several years in /agdg/
A miss right away.
>>409562676
Do you consider using existing development libraries acceptable?
>>409563015
In some cases, yeah. Mostly for specific stuff (like sound resampling, sdf generation).
But still, to an extent, a soup of libraries and dependencies that a lot of devs create is disgusting.
>>409563383
So why do you draw the line there?
>>409563660
Because if you are not careful, you lose control and that is never good.
>>409563779
And if someone who has gone so far as to write their own low level language said that to you, how could you possibly refute them?
>>409564045
>someone who has gone so far as to write their own low level language
I just don't see value in that.
If you can write asm and know C++ well enough to only use good parts of it, you can accomplish anything already. By writing your own language you don't get more control, so it's all about comfort.

Also, you could never get VAM on these sideloaders since there's no apk version.

Because even theoretically the backbone would be some cryptoscam coin which have been dropping like flies as participating in the validator network rapidly loses profitability.
But even in practical terms none of that functionality is built into the NFT at all in any way, shape, or form, it has to be implemented by developers. Which they could just as easily do (and have done) without running the backend on an inefficient cryptoscam with processing fees. Being decentralized or not has nothing to do with secondary markets or being able to resell digital goods, it's a complete non-sequitur. It's a lie that cryptoscammers pushed onto retards who keep parading the lie because they don't want to look stupid. For a perfect example of why it's retarded, look no further than Steam's digital economy, which works exactly like the functionality that cryptoscammers pretend NFTs have, without being decentralized.

I borrowed my brother's Quest 2 to try the alpha and it's fun. It feels like a slightly simplified version of Rainbow Six Siege that still maintains the tension on both the attacking and defending side. Points based buy menu with lots of potential for expansion for new gadgets and an overall similar level of polish to Hyperdash. They've built esports spectator tools for the game but it still feels casual friendly. I hope dedicated servers or higher playercounts will be an option for PC, I'd really like to see how chaotic 8v8 or 10v10 would be.

>As proven by study of our ancestor's corpses we only lived to 30 years old up until recently in our history as a species.
Sorry but you have grossly misunderstood that tidbit.
The average life span was calculated that low because it also included the deaths in infancy, as well as general diseases also killing children. If you survived all that to the age of 20, you were expected to live for another 50 years.
We did not turn grey and frail at 30.

>>409969703
Nope. I JUST explained to you how you didn't understand the the topic. You're talking about RECENT human history within the last 2,000 years and how lifespan was recorded.
I'm talking about our NATURAL BIOLOGICALLY STATE and how long we live as proven by OUR HUMAN REMAINS and how long we live naturally.
In the last 10,000 years we began to increase how long we lived past 28 by controlling the variables in our environment. Otherwise we naturally only live to 28.
This snowball effect of controlling our variables enables to live past 28 these days. In the same manner as when you hear about how long an animal lives in captivity VS the wild. The ones in captivity live A LOT longer. (There's a few that suffer from issues being in captivity but that's psychological in part)

What part of RELIABLE RECORDS do you not grasp you idiot?
The early civilizations have shitty glyphs and scribbles that literally dissolved away from the elements. Even the best early record keepers the Romans were having all of their parchments were falling apart or going up in huge flames in 500 bc

Sounds like cherry-picking to me.
https://www.ancient-origins.net/news-evolution-human-origins/life-expectancy-myth-and-why-many-ancient-humans-lived-long-077889
>scientists have compared the life span of adults in contemporary hunter-gatherer tribes (excluding the infant mortality rate). It was found that once infant mortality rates were removed, life span was calculated to between 70 and 80 years, the same rate as that found in contemporary industrialised societies.

Yeah, that data is out of date. We only recently found the human remains that prove we only lived to just under 30. Within the last few years.

The archeology argument is pathetic attempt at appeal to authority even if it's true.
Real children (and humans in general) are disgusting, but there is no valid logical argument against cunny.
It's just an artistic representation of idolized female beauty. And nobody gets hurt.
Being against it is just thought policing.

Not him but I found a bit of what he was talking about, I'd post more of it but it's a rather obscure topic that brings up tons of other things as well.
>People today typically live long enough to become grandparents, but this was not always the case.
>Recent analyses of fossil teeth indicate that grandparents were rare in ancient populations, such as those of the australopithecines and the Neandertals. They first became common around 30,000 years ago, as evidenced by remains of early modern Europeans
>Our initial findings, supplemented with scans provided by the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, corroborated Wolpoff's results and validated the wear-based seriation method: the Krapina Neandertals had remarkably high mortality rates; no one survived past age 30.
>Based on data from Neandertals and contemporary hunter-gatherer populations, we inferred that fossil humans got their third molars and had their first child at around age 15. And we considered double that age to mark the beginning of grandparenthood—just as some women today can potentially give birth at age 15 and those women can become grandmothers when their own children reach age 15 and reproduce.
All of this is also old data, the numbers were refined and lowered even further from here as of the last 5 years or so as anon mentioned. Dude just doesn't want to google for you lazy fucks like I did or he can't find shit, I can't find the more recent stuff as I want to play video games and you're all slobbering retards that don't even deserve him trying to educate you to be honest.
>>409972112
Thanks anon, and yeah that data is almost 10 years out of date. The numbers get lower but in the 1% that made it past 30 some did make it to 40 which is what the equivalent of someone reaching 110 today lol
>>409968518
Age gap has always been taboo to a degree, but in a society that offers freedoms and education to women, it's understandable that a civilized man would at least let her finish highschool before the burden of pregnancy and kids (other wise it's not sex "by nature").
Modern society has also offered you VR and let you start an off-topic debate in this very thread, the VR VIDEO GAMES thread.

You think ancient humans weren't even a little concerned about a man past his prime to taking their dear 10 year old daughter?
We might not be here without monogamy, but we definitely wouldn't be here without the rules of religions, which kept people in line and established civilized society. Religious heads were the most educated people in their communities.
Again, civilized society gave us VR and this very thread.

How is VR dev on unreal compared to unity?
alien isolation is great vr game but i just dont wanna play it
>>410034498
I would presume it is more difficult.
I was using Visual Studio with none of the Unity plugins or anything. It's a lot easier now it shows errors, suggestions, and proper navigation.
>>410037309
Can you give specifics? Is it missing certain plugins or are those plugins out of date?
>>410039790
Unreal is generally a more difficult engine to use, so I presume the same holds true for VR. My brief searching also seems to show OpenXR plugins are not as advanced.
>>410034498
I tried them both a little with no prior experience. I preferred Unreal slightly due to the layout of the editor and useful features like blueprints/visual scripting being built in by default. Not sure if Unity implemented it's own blueprints now but you needed addons for them before.
For VR tutorials I found that the UE4 ones were less outdated and broken than Unity, where there are so many you may need to dig past old or abandoned tutorials and examples to find what you're looking for.

Hello friends, at this point in the index's life is it still worthwhile to buy one. I've just come into enough money for an index and everything but I've been reading about Valve apparently doing another one soon.
>>410285610
Vail does a bunch of really nice things with gun-handling but the lack of any kind of retention reload mechanism for most of the guns is baffling.
>>410285835
tl;dr yes the index is worth it
Longer answer: The 'new one' is rumoured to be the deckard. It only exists in rumours, and patents, and how valve works is that until something is annouced it's liable to be dropped when the team's ADHD meds wear off. It has not been announced. Which means it is a year off at minimum. Plus since all we know is rumours, there isn't a great deal about it that we know reliably.
As for other competitors to the headset, there are headsets with better screens, there are headsets that are wireless, but they all have something tricky about them. For example some headsets imply are harder to drive because they have too many pixels; the index is 'good enough' to where you don't see them unless you look, which is easier on the GPU. Some have worse sweet spots, no IPD adjustment, worse sound, worse tracking (and no lighthouse system which is a big minus) or worse comfort or one of a dozen things that reduces the appeal. The index is a well rounded VR package that excels in nothing but is good in everything. Most of this community uses an index or a quest 2. For good reason.
Headsets of note: G2 (good screen, good sound, no lighthouse tracking). Quest 2 (good screen, ok sound, wireless, controllers track okay, but no lighthouse, needing to stream video over wifi reduces much of the benefit of the better screen, and facebook cuckery) and pico 4 (similar to Q2 but without facebook cuckery it's actually a half decent option).
>>410287362
>and no lighthouse system which is a big minus

>>410287362
Index also has a great mic. It's only real downsides are quality control issues, avaliability and in some ways price. The QA controller issues were so bad it put me off buying one for ages.
Quest 2 tracking is actually good for 99% of games, just not for VRChat or autistically hardcore Beat Saber wagglers.
Controllers using off-shelf batteries is underrated plus in my opinion. Never had to stop playing due to low battery when I can swap to another set of rechargables.
Sound is a bigger weak point than people say, the built in speakers are acceptable for casual use but you'll need to plug in your own headphones to even hear subtler sounds like footsteps in some games. There are third party options but anything that needs me to spend more money is a downside.
Comfort without a third party headstrap is also so bad people need to be warned about it. The popular BOBOVR M2 isn't as comfortable as an Index or even a Rift S due to all the forward weight. People recommend Vive DAS but they are getting pretty expensive too.

Holy shit you couldn't be more wrong. I've had to offload my OG Vive for reasons I won't get into then got a Quest 2 months later to scratch that VR itch after finding out that you don't need a Facebook account anymore and let me tell you, anything less than traditional outside-in tracking a la lighthouses is dogshit if you actually want some freedom with your hands.
I feel as stiff as a board as I try to do stuff ingame while making sure my controllers aren't too low at my sides or behind my back at all times. Yes, it tries to predict where your controllers are when out of view for a bit, but you still have to immediately return the controllers within view of the cameras. It can be godawful at times for games like Boneworks.

There is a "cracked" version of VD.
But anyway, as far as I understand to communicate between pc and headset, both programs need to have the same username, and the only way to add/retrieve the username is to pass the purchase check which is done through the meta servers (?).
It goes like this: app starts -> call home to meta to get the usernames -> connect to pc.
A while ago it was changed to:
app starts -> try calling home -> if no internet, do local discovery -> connect to pc.
And now the greedy goblin reverted it, so if it cannot call home you cannot connect to pc.
>>410354979
It's possible, canadianfag just got too cocky.
It takes one ghidra enthusiast that will check difference between 2 last versions, and then act, as dev.mode secures you can do whatever you can to patch apks
>why you didn't do thatI actually considered to start reverse engineering project before, but for Linux Streamer app, using ALVR solutions, but A770 fucking sucks
>>410355554
>the only way to add/retrieve the username is to pass the purchase check which is done through the meta servers (?).
You can set headset name on PC, which does license check
However you cannot set headset name on Quest, and unless this feature is pointless, it should be already enough for verification
>>410355554
kek so if someone buys it and their internet goes down or buy it to use it somewhere without internet it's useless?
>>410356203
Pretty much. The cracked version still works (i can upload it if anyone needs btw) and there is nothing the nigger can do about it if you firewall everything properly.
I bought it myself, but I wouldn't be upgrading personally. If something happens and I would need to reinstall, I would just install the cracked version.
>>410355554
hmm if you have dev mode enabled could you not simply make cracked apk that connects to the pc anyway? or would full quest2 root be needed for this?
>>410356713
Should be possible but you need to reverse engineer the apk and write a patch.
It's outside of my area of expertise.
>>410356431
What the greedfag doesn't realize is that his sales aren't rapidly dropping due to piracy, if it cannot be pirated the pirates won't buy it anyway (most of them won't) and just not use it at all.
The reason is the market is saturated, who wanted vd already bought it mostly, so there are no people left to buy it. Such is the fate of not having monthly subscription.
His next step will be to slime his way onto the pico store i suppose.
what's happening with the devmode toggle in the latest quest firmware btw?
i've heard it disappeared, have people figured it out yet?
>>410356812
I'm kind of tempted to do it just out of spite, but i am too lazy and would probably fail.
>>410356937
I've heard hotfix brings it back or something
>using up-to-date version
>>410356937
No more piracy for you fagget, sorry :')
>>410356946
i thought about it too, but i think the time would be better spent learning and improving ALVR
the faggot doesn't deserve anymore exposure, let him slide into irrelevance
>>410357070
jokes on you, my quest is never connecting to the internet ever again
>>410357159
not very smart either, the updates bring some pretty big upgrades actually
>>410356937
It's a bug. Should already be fixed when running latest versions of firmware and the oculus app, from what I've heard.
>>410357380
like?
the last non-meme feature q2 will get is QP controllers support.
>>410357074
>learning and improving ALVR
It will be possible to backport to ALVR VD features, like SSW or other shit he will add which ALVR lacks
Just implementing guy should be different from reverse engineer, and it will be legal as in clean room
Anyone have the Quest Pro controllers on Quest 2? Should I get them?
>>410357401
>bug
naive... so naive you are.
let me explain it to you,
they did it on purpose because it stops all piracy as you cannot install unsigned appks without dev mode, then they will monitor how much sales raises in meta store as pirates will be forced to buy the games, and then they release a ""fix"" to put the devmode back, then take a while to analyze the data and decide if the sales spike was big enough in order to make it worth removing the dev mode permanently.
>>410357540
>Just implementing guy should be different from reverse engineer, and it will be legal as in clean room
Bro, who gives a shit?
For example, it's common knowledge that most emulators devs use the leaked dev docs.
Just don't worry about it and if someone asks just say just you dindunaffin :^).
>>410357741
pirates dont buy games. They just stop using the platform. There are papers that go back into the 90s that have shown that combating piracy doesnt raise sales
>>410358493
that may be, but piratefag tears are a potent aphrodisiac
>>410358493
it actually hurts sales
people who fight piracy are retarded and only hurt themselves
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84M55-TL5go
>>410357741
According to my contacts, it really was just a bug, basically caused by their lack of staff and chaos after people being laid off.
No I am not Brad, though I am in contact with him and have a network. Trust me or not, whatever.
>>410357675
>Should I get them?
If drift stick is not fixed(which is likely), 300$ for controllers is a fucking scam
>>410358553
Really? I cant remember one drm solution that hasnt been cracked and the funny part about it has always been, that they are not bothering the pirates so much, as the autists among them see it as a challenge. It is usually the casual gamer that gts annoyed by it and leads to reputational loses for publishers and devs
>>410358750
Works fine on my machine. I just blow air into the sticks and that fixes the drift right up.
>>410358845
many games exist where cracking the drm took weeks or months even, which is when most sales happen, since people who would pirate bought it as they weren't willing to wait.
>>410359117
I can assure you, its not those that would pirate the game that buy during that time - they can wait. I pirate because I wont buy a cat in a bag. Anti pirating doesnt raise sales
>>410359583
>Anti pirating doesnt raise sales
It absolutely does. Not all pirates will buy it but a bunch of them will if the drm holds for long enough.
>>410359938
It doesn't. Your judgment is based on shallow and retarded assumptions.
Watch >>410358627
>>410359938
No. There are two kinds of pirates, those that simply wont buy, ever for whatever reason and those that pirate to test the product or deem it too expensive and dont want to be bothered with 2 hour refunds. The former simply wont buy, the latter likely is going to buy but is in no hurry. Anti pirating measurements wont raise sales.
*sneezes*
>steam workshop coming to H3VR next year
>>410371424
Bjg if true. I've lost count of how many modding systems h3vr has gone through until this point. The amount of firehoops I have to backflip through just to play on 1 or 2 maps that may not even show up or work properly and that I'll play for a hour and then never touch the game in over 6 months at a time is simply mind boggling. Blade and scorercy is just as horrendous.
>>410378102
It's also be getting built in tools that will handle a lot of what mods have been used for in the past.
>>410371424
>H3VR next year
Any specific timeframe, or should just expect it by Q4 2023 as not specified?
>>410383859
Well, the save/load system was meant to be done in August, but he burnt out and just implemented random guns instead for 2 months, then switched to Christmas content so it could be any time. He's also started things in the past and never finished them, so maybe never.
>>410061709
>shillseeker finally admits that bonelab wasn't a good game
Called it the game was going to be repackaged shit as soon as the gameplay trailer came out. Friendly reminder that you should always be doing your part to slag off influencers and deny them of engagement
>>410272925
>Who even IS this guy, anyway?
aging twink who just happens to be autistic about VR. Has decent technical understandings of tech/optics/ergonomics and actually digs deep for infomation instead of copy+pasting like everyone else. Is a healthy pessimist which indicates actual experience instead of all the other influencers who are just covering shit for a adsense paycheck. He's alright in my book
>>409794006
Because then all you'd have to do is groom kids to go around murdering people.
>>410392171
>always be doing your part to slag off influencers and deny them of engagement
cant argue with that.

It is a huge meme when you have the Meta pro controllers who do their own tracking and the tracking is flawless while being much cheaper and far more convenient in terms of setting up. The only advantage lighthouse has is body tracking and that's it.
Time to check out the Pavlov update feed.
>>410417759
Thanks Dave
>>410359938
>t. retard
The EU government suppressed a piracy study paper they paid for to find out if piracy effected sales when it proved it didn't at all. Not the type of thing you would try to memory hole if it was insignificant.
>>410358750
How much does two Valve index and 2 Base stations cost? Where I am, it only costs 40 dollars more than the Valve Index. It offers base station tracking with zero base station required and is higher quality than the Valve controller. The economics of the Pro controllers are far far better than the Valve index. The joystick and buttons feel better. The controller itself has a nicer feel to them with nice grippy material. It has great weight to them which makes the Valve controllers feel cheap in comparison. It's way way smaller in size, the haptics are better, and it has magnetics which make for the easiest recharging ever with the 45w charging dock.
The main pro I'd say the Valve controller has is of course the finger tracking and how the strap is pretty nice although I fucking hate the fact that the strap isn't removable.
