you'd have to redo the colliders (probably one outside capsule for each leg) and change the angle constraints to compensate
where are the other 10 components? It's probably easier to start there.

Im gonna blogpost
For literally no reason at all my project for my room I have poured hours into just decided to fucking destroy my lightmap constantly. It was without rhyme or reason it kept shifting the light map uvs on some of the objects. I had a work around by double baking and essentially hoping it would only destroy some of them. It led to having half of the lightmap going unused though which is stupid. I was so distraught and about to give up on this project entirely because even starting a new project and copying everything over it still was borked.
I decided otherwise and started another new project this time reexporting everything from blender again. I am happy to say everything seems to be fine now, and im pretty sure I have gotten everything back in its place correctly.

TLDR: Come play connect 4 with me pls I haven't actually tried it with anyone else yet

simply, you create an intermediary parent bone or use an existing one if there is one and put the component on that

These kickstarter memes from 3 years ago finally got here today, etee controllers. They're pretty mediocre so far.

pros:
no joystick to drift
about 30 grams lighter than an index controller
finger tracking is pretty accurate when calibrated, better individual fingers than the index
you can detach the steamvr tracker ring and use it as an awkwardly-shaped tracker for legs or whatever
tracking is just fine, as good as index controllers, tested on beat saber
build quality feels fine, nice grippy rubber, not chinky (though chinkware it is)

cons:
not comfortable. the knuckle guard is simultaneously too loose and too tight, and not easy to adjust like the index strap. I am very used to the index controllers after 3 years however, so some bias.
no physical buttons. you can assign the different touch points like the glowing thing on the front and the side of the tracking ring to actions in steamvr bindings, and it works okay, but it's not the same. the top of the stick itself is a touchpad which you can map to a joystick, but it's extremely sensitive. I haven't figured out how to give it a minimum pressure threshold before it outputs a joystick direction.
slightly easier to occlude the smaller steamvr tracking ring than the index thing
it sometimes loses finger tracking calibration, but unlike the index where it's just an annoyance until it resets, since it's emulating the button presses with finger tracking it breaks inputs until you recalibrate, which you do by pressing the power button at the bottom twice (a 2 handed manuever).

Welp. I backed these when I was super into beat saber and it was a bummer going from the perfect rift touch controllers to the huge index controllers, and I thought these would be good for that, but I rarely play now. I was also hoping they'd be lightweight enough to be less annoying for social vr shit, but they're bad for joystick locomotion. Maybe fixable in software, but disappointing so far.

Manual redirected walking requires a lot of joystick movement unfortunately, but yeah, these controllers are okay for stuff without joysticks (beat saber, canonically). The one good thing that stands out to me is the quality of the finger tracking, and the shaft is slightly narrower than the index controller shaft so you can be a bit more natural in your movements. It's still resting in your palm though, and I bet quest hand tracking is good enough these days that you're better off doing that if you wanted to do hand mocap or something. Nice that they actually shipped and there's at least one alternative to the index and vive wands for steamvr, but I don't see this design catching on sadly.

Similar interests and culture is all I'm interested in as well. Some people fall into the exact reason why generals are cancer and that's tribal mentality over generals. I've said many times over the years that people get attached to generals and it becomes a community, and because of that they get persistence. It's fine for the most part if there's plenty of content to keep it alive (thankfully VR still draws breath; even though most fresh content is going to be vrc related) but it gets real bad in content stagnation, where the community is the only thing that is the general any more. All of which is completely against the culture of anonymous posting.

That's actually not true, the vrc devs aren't really the greatest when it comes to optimization, for instance having multiple meshes is actually good you're supposed to separate meshes that have shape keys from ones that don't. It's also possible for me to upload an avatar that vrc says is medium or even good that will lag the shit out of your game and possibly crash you.

They dealt in compromises. More meshes is more draw calls, that's bad, so they limited draw count. More polygons is bad, especially if they use shapekeys whcih they will with the gesture system, so they limited those low.

They understood but the boiled down performance ranks aren't suitable for Avatar 3.0

This is what I did. You can almost always tell an avatar is poorly optimized just by looking at it so it really doesn't take long to clean out an instance. It's a mix of gaudy mishmashed Booth clothes, a lot of skin showing, glowing particle effects/emissions and tones of dynamic bones.
If it's low quality to look at the optimization is probably also low quality. You can practically see the shit taste dripping off people with unoptimized avatars. It's a quick and easy rule of thumb that's accurate about 90% of the time.

I know that the gossip can be fun but I hope most of you are able to sit back sometimes and remember how beautiful this place and VR in general can be sometimes. To me it feels like the last frontier until space becomes accessible. The last semi unconquered space left. Corporations are slowly closing in but until they rip it away this is one of the last places you can be free and find things only discovered by a few. In many ways it feels closer to old internet than anything I've ever seen or felt since then. We aren't quite the digital cowboys of old but it doesn't feel so far off. Don't let the coomer/tranny/clique drama dictate or fuck up your journey through the beginnings of potentially the digital renaissance because there is a not insignificant chance the world will come down like a hammer on it and this rare digital oasis will become a mainstream heavily moderated hellhole. Until then I hope you'll party with me at the end of the world anon. I'll see you on the other side.

This is something vrchat sucks at somehow.
I bet their tacked on object pooled per player ui and systems are super high in gameobject count and has animatros up the wazzo and update loops.

I noticed that in CVR the CPU overhead is orders of magnitude lower per player. Though CVR does suck at their user interface for controlling EASILY the performance of the game it's so much better at being light at overhead per player.

Speaking of which I noticed since the group update the performance has tanked even more with players that are not in view.

My previews halloween map ran at 90 fps with my computer with 1-3 people in the world.
Recently after the group update I got 60 fps alone in the world.

This makes me wonder if we should reduce the person count for the upcoming Friend by Friend event to 50 so it's comfortable for people and just have 3 instances.

No, I don't think this is a good idea. Friend by friend still performs decently (esp. with avatar hider) and I don't think the FPS has tanked by that much overall since groups. According to most metrics it's the same.
Having a higher playercap like a hardcap of 80 is more conducive to seeing a lot of people without having to switch instances. Especially because switching instances unticks boxes and can get you matched with people you've already matched with.
Also sounds like a nightmare for NA because they would need like 5-6 instances.

The previous friend by friend was 64/64 split for both instances for a good 5 hrs. Then became 64/40 for the next 5 then into a single 64 instance for the last 5 hrs.

But yeah we'll need more opinions on the matter if it'll be good. Since comfort for socialization is important.

The thing is even if everyone is not in view there is massive overhead atm on a per player in the world basis.
We can still do the usual 64 as a proof in the pudding thing. Hope it works out I'm just worried due to my personal tests of fps on previously uploaded worlds from before and after the group update

/DinnerCircle/ Invites you to the 2nd year anniversary of this eat-up. For 2 years every month, we have gotten together and eat while in VR. I've seen those come and go. There have been times of just a few of us. We've partied and even drank together. We've prayed and repented. We've sneed and feed. We've fine dinned. We've even had live music. 24 nights(mornings for some) of autistic chewing noises and good conversation over food. Whether it be real or the pixels through your lenses, these times will not be forgotten. But there are more events to come!

BRING YOUR GAMERFUEL. NO NOT THE BRAND BUT THAT WORKS. pizza snacks, hot pockets, chicken nuggets, WATER, anything you'd need to keep on gaming. THIS SATURDAY(28th) AT 7pm EST in CVR

It surprises me more how hostile people are about it. Beyond just lazy. Maybe it's a sunk cost thing. But considering everyone bitches and moans about tupper and the vrc devs all the time, you'd think people would be willing to force feed cvr some growth just to light a fire under vrc's ass.

but then, we come back to point 1: laziness, I suppose.

having tried cvr a few times, it's perfectly serviceable. obviously not as far ahead as vrc, but if you were ok with 2018 vrc, it's not that far off from that.

Oh well. I'll keep enjoying both and helping the underdog. I like having options.

It's maybe 2 trannies who fly into a rage when you mention a VR game. Extremely vocal minority. Almost certainly all complete newfags that haven't experienced the cycle of being burned by the VRChat devs yet.
If VRC ever forbids NSFW content in a way that makes NSFW avatars actually risky to use or /trash/ meets risky to attend, I guarantee the complaints about CVR will immediately stop.

It's not Unity, it's all the shit that the VRC devs tack onto player objects. Coupled with the fact that Animators are always running, you're looking at a lagfest.
Unity has its shit moments, but holy fuck is it painful to support user-generated content in alternatives like Unreal Engine. Let alone the fact that Unreal is not VR-friendly and you have to struggle against some core UE concepts and workflows to get VR to play nicely.
There are other Unity games (like CVR) which show that you can optimize a game like this. Even Lavender, despite how scammy and mismanaged the whole project was from the start, showed that you can have lots of people in an instance with basically no lag.

Votekicks have been broken since the groups update and haven't been fixed yet. Only instance owners can kick people which is why right now, it's doubly important to try and funnel people into instances managed by hardasses who interrogate and clean up randos.
A simple "what boards do you browse?" is sufficient, worked well enough on new years.

The desktop window is already a mirror of the left eye of the main camera, so it's not really rendering twice. It's pushing a few more pixels to the screen by copying them from your main view, but a GTX 970 or above should be plenty to handle that.
VRChat currently uses 2 separate cameras to render, one for rendering your VR view and then another one to render it again but for JUST the UI. This is done so that the UI isn't affected by post-processing and can't be blocked by the world or an avatar.
Due to the nature of single-pass stereo, you don't exactly have 1 camera per eye. Once we switch to single pass stereo instanced rendering, we should see some performance improvements in terms of drawcalls.
Side note, if you open the handheld camera, that's +1 camera for the preview screen on the camera. Opening the stream camera is +2 cameras, one for the preview and one for the desktop stream.

VRC uses single pass stereo rendering. It's technically rendering each object twice, but it's rendered in a more optimized sequential way that makes the second eye not as bad as you would expect, performance-wise. On top of that, both eyes rendered to a single double-wide screen that covers both eyes in your headset.

Sounds like you should have told the instance owner. There were like 80 people in each instance and as far as I know the EU one had a pair of jannies literally patrolling spawn when we were filling up.
>Might be an autistic question but has anyone tried using group instances yet?
Not a good fit for our anonymous community. You can't just drop a link in the thread for newfags, people out of the loop don't know about the group and won't join, group instances show up as "Private world" in social, and open groups can just be joined by randos anyway.
The closest to "ideal" we can get would be "Group+" instances. Basically a Friends+ instance, but the instances show up under the group instances tab and all the group's moderators all have full kick powers in group instances. There would still be drama related to THAT, but at least it would solve the rando problem without accidentally keeping out a newfriend or unrecognized oldfag.

I tried to, people were quite drunk so I just kinda left it, to be honest. Everyone ignored the freak and kinda just moved on with the usual conversation, they ended up getting left in that instance when everyone kinda split off into different new years lobbies so no harm no foul of any instance host.

And yeah sorry if I didn't get across my point with group instances, was very vague aha. Mainly meant it for the use of moderation through having multiple people with the ability to kick, though that's a double edged sword if the wrong person gets too power hungry/ has a melty over someone.
But hey, if we don't suggest things, no solution

It's not laziness.
I just don't give a shit about VR anymore.
I'm here to keep in contact with friends i've made and log in basically out of habit.
The dogshit out of date hardware isn't worth getting excited over.
No vr game release is worth getting excited over.
Nothing the vrchat devs do impacts my experience because it's so surface level at this point.
VR used to be a big exciting part of my life but now it's just another digital thing i occasionally digitally do.

I feel that's the same with most people here now. It's not that people really care and are just too lazy to act.
They just straight up don't care in the first place.

This only happens if a mistake is made, which is semi-rare for anyone except Mythra R. If you actually browse 4chan you're welcomed with open arms, generally.
Anyone who does not browse 4chan should be kicked on sight. They are a liability in every way. Ugly TDA thots, report-happy furries, crasher niggers, and worst of all they bring in more randos of the above sort.

Not conducive to easily finding vrg instances, especially if people go worldhopping or exploring. It gets doubly problematic for new people who want to join.
Also everyone would just show up as being in a private instance all the time and it turns into a nightmare. The way things are now is as good as it gets and has worked for years.
Invite+ presents the same barriers to your friends as it does to randos. Randos already join off friends, them joining off a blue status friend or said friend accepting an invite request won't change much.
The only way we could improve this is pushing for Group+ instances, where we have multiple established people around to kick problematic users. It's the equivalent of calling a mod on your local dedicated Garry's Mod server.

They arent kicked for breaking random rules, theyre kicked for not being from 4chan. There is nothing wrong with that. Either youre from here or youre not supposed to be in the instance.
Again, it DOES work when people have friends from outside. They just cant come here. Being kicked is not an assault on your person. If youre scared to tell your 'friends' that they got kicked cause you were in a 4chan only instance, as if they'd have a problem with it, then theyre not really your friend, are they.

the prop system otherwise, is a selling point to me. very gmod. along with noclip being standard, along with post processing setting options.

I really like that you can block per specific avatar. handy for hiding specific public avatars.

its kind of hard not to compare vs vrc since they are similar.

That's an extra layer that is unnecessary to watch anime in in all technical limitations of it.
If you do really desire having your avatar in there are VRC to CVR avatar converters that work so that's not much of a hassle.
They also work as an installation on the same project you have VRCSDK on without any issues.

But just in case go backup your project.

the world descriptor is technically different from spawn location. if no spawn is set, it acts kike one. but otherwise, the descriptor has a cube wireframe on it you can position wherever you want the portal to take the shot of. and it takes a 360 snapshot

2. Todays map recommendation: Idris' Discovery (Escape Room) By TrueAquaPsych.
Have you ever thought that Portal – is actually a bunch of Escape rooms? Did you also wonder what if there was some magic? Oh, and what if it was like magic in Arx Fatalis – you actually have to CAST spells schemes?
Well, that’s the closest description I could’ve make about this map: You have a big facility, built in a spirit of older Metroidvanias, more puzzles you solve – more spells you learn, and more places you can reach to solve, cast Fire or Ice, summon Berries, change Gravity or even Weather – and use even more cool spells to solve big variety of original puzzles and finaly learn About Idris Discovery.
Best be played solo or by group of 1-4 people, rough playtime – 1.5 to 3 hours, really depends on how.

It keeps it charged for 10 hrs. It does drain don't get me wrong. But 10 hrs is long enough for any gaming session no?

Back then using Quest 1 it keeps it charged infinitely but that was 72hz.

I think it's possible to make it last a lot longer if you reduce brightness of your steamVR video screen and make the refresh rate 72hz

Quest link lasts around 5-7 hours for me and I run it at 90Hz, 120FPS is actually really hard to maintain with the Quest 2's resolution. I found it much better to get a battery and use Virtual Desktop for wireless PCVR, if you get two batteries (charge one while the other is in use) you can run it forever, cable will always run out as it doesn't charge faster than the Quest drains.

you can also use a good wall charger and just plug a tyce C into it while using airlink/VD, mine stays charged at 120hz that way and will actually charge up. if you dont plan on using it for link you can get a really long gen 2 USB cable for cheap. no experience with power banks.

NTA but I don't think you realize how big this would have been for stuff like banking systems.
Certainly nowhere near world-ending, but it would have definitely affected the economic stability had it not been foreseen. Lots of old systems and mainframes like the AS-400 that would just shit itself.

CVR is like using a discord alternative or 4chan clone at this point.

people will always flock back to the original even though it sucks, the alternatives have no traction or they manage to be worse and end up getting an obnoxious culty fanbase.

CVR's only promise is lewd is allowed.

that's it.

Everyone still uses discord after it was outed that several staff are babyfurs into cub porn. Discord covered it up and banned everyone who reported it.

yet it's the most popular chat application.

4chan has had several events over its nearly 20 year run that led to mass exoduses. All that happened was most of the userbase that left came back, or realized image board culture was retarded and grew up and moved on. The clones ended up becoming sad and irrelevant after 3-4 years as they were just snapshots of 4chan at that moment in time, and people grew tired of them and moved on, or they got involved in illegal shit and got partyvanned.

each time people came back, even if they hated it.

CVR will never be as big as VRChat, even though VRChat sucks and is inflexible, and run by assholes, it's here to stay and it's where all your friends are going to be.
The Vrchat team were laughing at the exodus of people and mocking them because they were getting new users faster than those who left. The numbers were around 4000 people from what I was told by someone who works for the company. The reason they quickly added many of the quality of life features that modded clients added, was because some of those being removed and not putting them in could have gotten them sued for discrimination. They feared being sued by people citing ADA more than they feared losing users. Plus showing their software supports disabled people looks better than "VRChat hates cripples"

CVR isnt even a remote concern to them. It's a joke to them. More of one than Neos.

They mock the fuck out of CVR and Neos all the time internally.

Neos was the only platform that had any real chance at competing simply because it is nothing like VRC. And then it's not real competition since its target audience is different to begin with. Cluster also survives and thrives simply because it's targeting completely different audience.
Anything that's clone of "existing popular service X with established userbase" has to be MASSIVELY better to have any chance at dragging users over, if it's more or less the same just slightly better but without the established userbase nobody will move, ever, because friend stays there because friend stays there because friend etc., it's catch 22 situation.
Anonymous No.416012790 Replies: >>416013243
I've said this a bunch of times but without the inability to use VRC, CVR will always be uncompetitive. That reason being such as VRC finally cracking down on NSFW; and they haven't and probably won't because they know it'd yeet loads of addicted users to other platforms.

The plan is to maintain the current 5 room rosters but reduce their spawn chance to 2/40 each so that's 10/40 total for the old rooms leaving 30/40 chance spawn for the newer rooms.
Some room makers are only starting just now with their room so theirs's definitely time and we have a good template to get you started.

Anonymous No.416015773 Replies: >>416024938

VRC is good, it's just horribly mismanaged. A sort-of happy mistake happened with the game. The direction that most of the avatar/world creators, VR enthusiasts and long-time users want to go into is not what the devs want.
Avatars 3.0 only happened because some guy in 2017 accidentally figured out that gesture overrides can *do* stuff, besides just changing the way your fingers look. And until AV3.0 released, it seemed that almost every developer decision has limited avatar potential in some way. Such as cameras and seats being removed or nerfed, the trust and safety system, performance options, ever-growing limitations, and now even avatar hider has complicated things a bit.

tl;dr VRC is good in spite of the devs, not because of them

Reminder that Lavender was a money laundering and Ponzi scheme organized by June, Yuki, Yuru and more to fuel private irl sex parties with minors but the money and power made June into a alcoholic and dope addict and soon broke up with the rest of the gang slowly destroying his own organized crime syndicate because of his addiction which in turn made it impossible for him to keep on developing the game and lastly when the money was all used up he instead victimized himself and blamed the community for being to harsh on him with the development of lavender which in turn made him post a massive melty rant as the final developer update.

Soon after the money which many /vrg/ members has invested into June and the alpha project has disappeared and June has left an unfinished product without giving the money back to its backers which is illegal and should be brought to court together with his crime syndicate.

There's custom straps you can buy for the Quest 2 that fit better. Oculus headsets have this nasty issue where they don't fit all head shapes and the headset will sag as a result. The biggest indicator of this being the cause of your blurry vision is chromatic aberration near the top/bottom of the screen, such as red or blue ghostly outlines or smears around objects.
You need a better strap or a counterweight on the back. The counterweight sucks ass so don't do that.

i would agree that his was the case untill early 2021(dev stream), after which they slowly started hiring lot's of people from community, developing new UI and PhysBones and more stuff, they were catching up speed for the whole 2021, at the end of 2022 they doubled their team basically - most of which were hired from the community: lot's of frond and back end, devs, artists and even some new managment stuff. That's exactly why they were able to push all those changes - Accesability, camera drone, groups, Udon fixes, Main Menu and website rewamp, global public avatar block, avatars limited by number or distance, Earmuffs(god bless fro that one, i can finally focus) and much more in a few months(of course they didn't make it in a crunch months, it would be silly to think that).
Whatever you say guys about vrc dev team - it's same right now as it was even 2 years ago, and i'm pretty sure that changes last year were only the beggining, we're in for a good year

Quest hand tracking needs the arms to be outstretched ahead of you. It can't handle occlusion, because it uses cameras. The controls are wonky and it keeps opening the menu (index-to-thumb) instead of letting me rotate (middle-to-thumb). The hands look fine, it just activates the wrong thing. I feel like this wasn't a problem for me when it released and that it broke later. I liked it until it started acting up. There's currently no way of opening the radial menu.
It is fun showing index users that I can spread my fingers, though.

Would there ever be a possible way to combine the controllers and finger tracking on the quest I wonder? Recently buying knuckle guards for my controllers allows for free finger movement while keeping the controllers in place, it'd be cool if it allowed for finger tracking ontop of it.

I was pretty happy just chilling and talking in the old days of vr chat pre 2019, did something happen? Do I need a custom skin to fit in now lmao. I just wanna talk to people as rumia without having to listen to kids screaming in the background about rizz and fortnite

You don't need a "skin" (it's not called a skin!!!), you just need a VR headset. It's the virtual reality general after all.
You're probably not going to get kicked for desktopping but you will probably be ignored by many people.

Doesn't the quest block you from some worlds in vrchat? I'd need to save up some money to setup a proper pcvr rig, at least about 700USD

I'm pretty sure that "before it" means "a few days before it", not literally right before the event.
I think. I hope. That said, the date event before it IS going to be just chatting.

You're actually probably better off with the latest version unless there's a specific mod you want that doesn't work on the latest one.
All of the important stuff usually gets updated pretty quickly.

The Quest 2 can be linked to your PC, essentially turning it into a headset for PC VR and allowing you to see all the PC content. Don't bother with the standalone Quest 2 android version.

You can hang around in desktop if you tell people that you're planning on getting a headset soon and wanted to check things out, but permanent desktoppers are generally regarded as creepy since they're limited to watching.

I thought you meant desktop VR as in you're using a VR headset attached to your desktop as opposed to using a quest or something. If you are referring to it as meaning just using your desktop with no VR then no, no one will talk to you and you will be mainly ignored.

Maybe when most of the people were using desktop, but in this general most people have full body tracking on top of a VR headset. You're not interacting on the same level if you're just watching through a monitor.

It's a public thread, and I haven't seen people actively kicked for being a desktopper, but it's "exclusive" in that people who aren't from 4chan that join a meetup from their friend will get booted.

It should be possible to make custom controllers that give OSC input, but aren't seen as controllers by the game.
I don't know if slimes can combined with hand-tracking to keep track of the arm position while out of the cameras' view, but that might be an option.
