I think it's time i distanced myself from this community, and possibly VRChat as a whole.

Theres just too much bullshit, lies, gossip and tranny drama, some of which i've been responsible for too.

To those i love, adios. To those i hate, burn in hell. It's certainly been something, but even years before being here and on vrc my mental health has been terrible (i wont go into it but i've had a pretty traumatic life), and being part of vrg and trash in particular has only made my mental state even more unstable than it already was.

Spent some time yesterday at the old hub world shrine for the first time and thought it was pretty neat as a newer vrc enjoyer. Was curious if people would be interested in doing a NA Exploration: Redux run where for a night we world hop classical maps that used to be incredibly prolific 3+ years ago but are now mostly forgotten. I usually avoid higher visit count maps but though it might be neat to do a cruise through for people who haven't been around as long to crawl through some of the old semi historic maps and perhaps give some of the older crowd a trip down memory lane. Is that something any of you might be interested in? Think stuff in the vein of Gaia Night or maybe some of the ancient vrg event maps that nobody has seen in years. Not committing to anything just wanted to gauge interest.

I was going to play through Fallout 4 VR, and downloaded this Wabbajack install: https://github.com/ajantaju/F4FEVR because I wasn't a big fan of the sweeping changes made by the only other Fallout 4 VR Wabbajack list, Fallout 4 VR Essentials. That list was created a few months ago, and several of the mods in the modlist have had updates since then, one of the biggest ones being Sim Settlements 2, which has had several updates since the modlist was created. Since the modlist is mainly focused on on graphics and minor compatibility changes, would it be safe to update the out of date mods, since I haven't started playing yet?

It's not the art style or lack of legs even if those things were offputting.
They just didn't have a cohesive and realistic vision for what they were trying to create. It was a mess that even confused regular VR users, normalfags and outsiders had no clue beyond seeing the corporate advertising content. The few that did try it realized quickly that it offered nothing you couldn't have better elsewhere. It's shocking how much money they spent on Horizons when it doesn't even have a solid or appealing foundation.
The avatar system seemed more metaverse than anything else. You can use it both for Meta apps and a handful of third party games so far. Theoretically you could jump between social hub and games with a party of friends while always looking the same. The lack of any creative freedom combined with the limits on how desirable such a feature actually is in practice stops it from having a greater impact.

Both maps were incredibly rushed and it shows. But that says, damaskus put more effort into his OSHA map than Weedhorse did into the evil map. No offense but the evil map was laggy and broken as shit.

I once managed to glitch/defeat BTR in there, i was throwing tons of grenades at it and at some point i just walked into the car itself, I've seen some glitchy fake gun with a visible bullet or a small mag or something. BTR was shooting at its own chassis for a while, then it stopped shooting at some point, it was just aiming at me from afar and never taking a shot.

But yeah, the general idea is that you're supposed to avoid BTR. And, you're also supposed to enter this area through swamps if your quest is located on the other side/in village. That's actually one thing that took me a lot of time to figure out, i was entering the area through shortcut to reach this one main quest where you perform a 'ritual' - three Tides worth of killing everyone on my way from shortcut to the destination until i finally took a longer route and effectively avoided all of the difficult enemies.

I don't think that's an FFB thing specifically, sounds like the car is just unstable.
As far as street tracks go, I like Pacific Coast Highway and LA canyons, but I'm not sure either one is what you're looking for.

I'd imagine they're going to have occlusion issues too, especially if you're contorting in weird ways that end up covering up one of the cameras. I also think it's going to need visible light to actually see your surroundings so you'll get some light bleed through your face gasket as well.
Like every VR gadget that's come out for the past 5 years, it's gonna be one step forward in one way and a step backwards in another. There may be a slightly higher value proposition here in the longer term IF you're using an inside-out headset, because you're cutting out two points of failure with the lighthouses. We'll have to see how much of a beating they can take before we'll know for sure.

Im trying to understand why I like the tabor. Gameplay loop is basic hoarding and is kinda boring, all vr interactions are pain, game looks frankly like shit, but I get the call of the zone.

I want to go in with a partner again, explore, loot, cover each other. It feels a bit like metal gear, a bit like Into the Radius. Its not even that complicated gameplay. I think I felt similar about going with friends into Onwards abandoned map and killing all the patrolling bots. Is it just the military coop openworld tacticool itch? What is it? Whybdo I want to go back? The zone! Its calling me!!!

You can go alone or squad up. There are npcs and other players. Missile silo can have 8 players, and island map 12. There is quite a lot of NPCs patrolling though.

There is proximity voice chat so you can try to talk to players, maybe even avoid fights.

Selecting the texture to bake to is incredibly obtuse in Cycles. You have to open the node editor and make a random free-floating image texture node for each material. You then have to make sure that this new orphan node is the last thing you clicked on in order for it to be the bake target.
Also, Cycles does NOT support transparency or alpha baking at all. So if you want to bake something with alpha, or bake other textures like metallic/normal maps, you're basically fucked. You have to do an "emission bake" to get the alpha into a separate texture, and then edit the textures in GIMP to merge them (after baking twice).

Baking is the best way to manually atlas. You can freely set parts of the bake target to have smaller UV's than the original if you need less detail on something, and more importantly it instantly gets rid of wasted texture space.
Don't tell me you texture atlas your stuff by just stitching together all those big textures in Photoshop or something. Or worse, that "auto atlas" tool.

Baking uses blender's rendering pipeline to paint the textures all onto a new UV. It can certainly work to squish stuff onto another texture; but it would be way more efficient to just move the texture pieces around.
You know how the UV overlaps on the texture to choose what to paint onto the mesh ? If you could move the UV and the image in parts at the same time between texture files you could just cut pieces you need from one and paste into another to atlas.

That's basically what I do now except I have to do it in stages; first on the texture files, then in blender line up the UV to match.

only because cycles is dumb. blender internal made it the best way to atlas textures.

I'm not switching off 2.79. My atlasing workflow takes literally 3 minutes after I made an addon that auto resizes the UV's to fit the target texture.
Literally all I have to do is click materials and drag them into the UV window, maybe cram or pack them a little if I'm low on space. MMD's take literally 3 minutes to atlas completely from start to finish, booths a little longer because stupid japs make their textures too big. I'm not giving that up for a "cleaner" UI.
I'll use "new" Blender for from-scratch stuff but that's my limit.

so you just freeform drag the UV's and drag them over the texture until it looks okay? i would be way too autistic about the UV's being even a single pixel off. i would only ever manipulate UV's like that if I can do it in predefined increments by hard-inputting values on both ends. like when mirroring textures where you can just select 1 half and scale it by -1 on the X axis. i would never want to drag UV's over the texture and hope for the best unless i'm doing it from scratch anyway.
baking guarantees that they'll line up.
i haven't tried baking in external programs like substance painter yet, but fuck using such a bulky program just for a simple texture bake. i would sooner boot up 2.79 with an imported FBX just as a texture bake-slave.

Blender has very little in the way of image editing for some reason, it's got some stuff internally but it's not easily accessible. That's why the auto atlas addon needs some weird Python library.
Would be cool if you could move textures and UV's together, but I think the real problem then becomes what should happen if you move a face that's overlapping with another face, or a face that's too close to another. And also how much margin it should bring along with it, etc...
The texture file does not have a concept of "islands" so that sounds very difficult.

What we actually need is Blender devs that aren't completely tunnel-visioned on a workflow where you model something in Blender for the sole purpose of rendering it within Blender. "Old" Blender had you assign textures and it just werks. You could bake textures for various reasons (atlasing, baking AO, baking normals) and it just werks. Now they basically want you to fiddle with the shaders and setup an entire node graph before you can even see the texture on the mesh. The ability to bake textures with alpha channels was promptly discarded because Blender Internal was deemed inferior for rendering scenes, and bakes/renders in Cycles are also noisy as fuck which really degrades the texture quality.

Using 2.80+ for anything game engine related is basically a cope at this point. They're focusing primarily on artists looking to make and render models within Blender, everyone else be damned.
