Anyone tried the new version of Zenith yet? You can select it in the game's beta tab on Steam.

I played with some people I met in the hub area and the consensus was that it's kinda fun but probably going to die just like the MMO. It doesn't even remotely feel like a seperate product as it's got all the MMO assets, laggy netcode and weird jank that regular Zenith has.

From the hub area there are 3 gamemodes that have some kind of map rotation. One is just a simple boss rush, another for daily challenges and the final one is a dungeon with platforming, mobs, a boss and some optional hard mode stuff. The combat was slightly better than the MMO so far, they throw a lot of enemies at you simulataneously and the bosses/minibosses all have telegraphed attacks to dodge. The combat arenas have grapple points or grind rails to use which you'll need to dodge some attacks, they feel pretty good once you get the hang of the auto-platforming system. The combat slide is horrendously implemented and looks awful in first person and I'm not sure what purpose it serves. There's a skill tree but it doesn't look particularly deep, everyone has a bow and access to spells via the skill tree. Gear is dropped from enemies or chests just like the MMO and power scales fast enough that the people I played with complained about being overpowered.

I'm not sure whether this is suppose to be a social game or not. There's not enough focus on replayable or social minigames to keep people entertained once they've completed the short daily/weekly stuff, nor are players going to get attached to their character enough to buy cosmetics when it uses the flat, soulless Zenith art style. How can they keep making these critical mistakes?

They’re definitely not for everyone. I personally am usually on the smaller instances myself. While I do go to the big instances too it’s only very rarely except for fbf which could be argued is a big small instance.

Weekend instances are sprawling bars or pugs in essence. Great if you like that kind of atmosphere but if you are the type to want a more personal gathering I suggest trying to find the people who are in smaller instances and chilling there.
