We're at the inevitable point where all of the bases are covered within the limits of the game. Unless someone makes a lever action in Pavlov or you decide to change the autoshotgun asymmetry (which you shouldn't imo) any new additions are going to be factioning for the sake of it at best or undermining bloat at worst.
The only niche I can think of that's untapped is a revolver with different gameplay like fast reloads or low recoil. I wanted the Webley to be added for ages but using it makes it clear it's just a worse revolver. If anything just reduce the price so I can akimbo them in pistol round and it might be worth using.

Yet another autism project. After hours of shitty hacked together networking code, I've got a system for synced bleeding. The ultimate goal is to have a realistic medical system. Why? I haven't seen it in a VR game yet AFAIK. Even the tatical shooters don't go full autism. Usually its just a wrap around the arm with a bandage, but irl that won't do shit against a gun wound. And if its a head, chest or neck wound, theres not a lot that can be done as far as basics. I'm sure someone whos actually a medic will chime in. Well now its time to work on the packing, tourniquets and chest seals.

And now for something completely different - Metacity Patrol! Quest exclusive that's like 7 bucks.

Remember LOW-FI, the totally not Blade Runner game that is probably never getting finished and has no actual game in it? Well Metacity Patrol is that with actual game and more soul than LOW-FI ever had. You cruise around comfy cyberpunk city in your aircar and when on duty you get missions from HQ that range from finding and chasing synths (possibly armed) in the streets, car chases in the skies, scanning building for criminal activity, collecting evidence and even doing Voigt-Kampff test with arrested suspects, complete with the eye closeup scan.

Streets are bustling with NPCs, there are upgrade stations to buy better parts for your gun, car, implants and even purchaseable appartments and random roleplay stuff like food, cigarettes and several types of glowing umbrellas.

As you climb the police ranks and get more upgrades you get more varied missions and better payouts across more of the game's locations which are plenty more than LOW-FI and usually bigger. Also there's obligatory cinema playing Metropolis, night club with dancing crowd and several radio stations.

It's obviously lowpoly but in a good way, the NPCs and simple environments give strong Deus Ex vibe and overall the game is incredibly comfy in the classic Blade Runner way. Just cruising around, walking down the streets, smoking and sipping beer or racing on one of the sky tracks is more fun than anything LOW-FI ever did. It gets regular updates every quarter or so and there's enough sandbox gameplay in there to keep you occupied for that long. How solo dev with help from few volunteers managed to make something this polished and comfy is a miracle. It also has no real bugs or glaring technical issues aside from some minor culling hiccups in some areas.
TL;DR - Blade Runner VR, what LOW-FI was supposed to be but for fraction of price and tons more soul

I had to drop the resolution scale to 80-90% in some areas because it dropped below 90fps on a 4080 at 3k per eye.
There's some bugs with shadows for me that causes character to emit a bright blinding light and I had to set the shadows to low to fix it.
The intro looks good but the area with the snow and the gas mask looks bad. I stopped playing shortly after getting the AK.

Fuck me, R2 Bucket just works everytime, compared to my nginx-cloudflared setup that in VRC only works with some of my domains in for unkown reasons.
I fucking hate how you can't really troubleshoot videoplayer in VRC. I used to think that buckets were complicated, turns out just like OOP object storage is for dum-dums.
It took me so many hours to set up and troubleshoot nginx, R2 was literally seconds. Also R2 can't point at root so my earlier question is moot

What's the most performant way of doing pcvr with a wire? I've heard the official oculus app takes up a lot of resources.

It works around some bad behavior in avpro/mediafoundation which I had the autism to document here: https://github.com/hiinaspace/animutools , plus a tool to do the HLS remuxing (Or these days you can ask an ai to write you the ffmpeg incantation directly). It'll be a bit more annoying to upload all the segments to r2 than a single file, unless you're using rclone, which you should.

Picrel is cloudflare security pages, not-working domain is stuck at the left one, working one passes though that and ends as the user agent on the right.
Page rules are empty, cache, waf, all other settings i could find in cloudflare in both sites seem top be identical (and R2 works with both!). It's driving me mad. inb4 use the working domain, lease ends today.

Hmm, does the non-working domain serve the video fine to other players (browser, mpv)? Do you have the bot javascript captcha thing turned on? I doubt that mediafoundation (WMFSDK in the useragent) actually supports http/3 so I'm vaguely guessing that cuckflare is redirecting your requests.

If there's nothing obvious like that, I'd set up mitmproxy and see the request/responses that mediafoundation is making to CF. You can also make nginx log more heavily and see if you can tell what's going on; if you don't see the requests at all then CF is definitely redirecting you. I use CF and nginx too but not cloudflared, so I dunno what more logging you can get from their tunnel.

at 4k per eye I doubt it unless we see some major leaps in GPU hardware very soon
that's why we need dynamic foveation to heavily lower the GPU cost for super hidpi displays so that we can run them much more easily

One more Metacity shill post, chase missions are pretty simple catch up with stolen aircar and ram it until it crashes, with fully upgraded car and good aim you can even oneshot it. There will be NPC police car giving chase too, it doesn't do anything but the blaring sirens and lights make it feel like proper police chase. The blimp cruising between locations is actual transport you can board and use to travel while sipping martini, it's slow and inefficient but it's all those little touches that make it feel like proper living place.

I personally use vscode with the unity and c# extensions and while it's a little more janky to setup (have to do some stuff in unity itself with the vscode support package) it also works fine and arguably more generally useful to learn than VS; also you can pick your poison of AI coding assistant extensions, which are very useful and generally give you free access to claude 3.5, which does actually know unity and the vrchat udon sdk. Jetbrains Rider is now free for non-commercial stuff and supposedly really good for unity dev, if you want to try it. I did use intellij a lot when I had to wage and it is a very good IDE for heavy lifting. For the scale of most udonsharp projects it is likely overkill though; the heavy refactoring stuff will never be useful, and using the regular debugger with udonsharp can be misleading.

Quest 3 refurb, or get a Quest 2 used if you are REALLY on a budget. Learn to solder and if you can use your college/university's 3d print and electronics workshop facilities (or local hackerspace if you have one) to build a set of SlimeVR trackers. Get proper BNO085s IMUs and make sure to wire in the optional battery monitoring resistors. It'll take a while to ship if you buy everything from china but you'll have good tracking and a portable system without base stations, and they'll be better than haritoras and probably quicker and cheaper than getting someone to build them for you.

It is the best all-around modern VR headset you can get at the moment. It's an easy recommendation from almost everyone except those that hate Zuck/Meta and/or the concept of a wireless headset.
As everyone else said though the price will add up because you will need to replace some of the shit aspects of it out the box with better third-party solutions like an upgraded headstrap, facestrap, and batteries (some headstraps come with a battery).

Hi /vrg/,

Been a while since I've worked on a vr-related project, but I felt inspired recently after reading the ALOHA 2 publications. I put together a 6 dof serial link manipulator (robot arm) and rigged it up for teleoperation over vrchat. Using a janky combination of IK and resolved-rate motion control, other people can control the end effector position of the arm irl by moving a prop in my vrchat world.

See pic related for a demo video, which uses passthrough and my irl-aligned vrc world to overlay a remote operator and their movement onto my room.

Latency is reduced by the fact that I'm scraping the prop positions locally, so it winds up being mostly aligned with what I see on my side in VR. There is some delay due to hardware constraints, but not as much as you'd expect given that the operator in the demo is on the other side of the world. The drawback is that the system currently doesn't have any operator feedback, so the controller is pretty much flying blind besides my verbal instructions.

Robotics isn't a domain that I have much experience in. Interacting with the physical world brings a whole slew of complications which can be frustrating at times, but there is something satisfying about making things that actually move instead of just being lights on a screen.
