I'm late but man, about fucking time. If this gets even a small fraction of Beat Saber's custom song makers it would extend the game's lifespan by so much. I wonder how it'll work though, from a mechanics perspective it's going to be very involved and may dissuade all but the most dedicated of autists given the massive labor that is creating custom environment. I hope they have a very comprehensive map generation built in at launch.

PSVR1 and PC VR versions were already pretty similar from what I remember. Game wasn't really a looker to begin with but the dynamic lighting effects were nice, which is something the Quest version didn't get.
But just from experiences in crossplay trying to aim with the Move controllers must've been nearly impossible.

Hi lovely and knowledgeable people,

I’m about to buy a used Rift S VR headset for my 13 yo son. Never had one before, he has a gaming laptop and I think the specs are compatible. I don’t understand a lot about videogames or this technology. I would like to know if there’s any reason I shouldn’t buy. I can’t afford anything better. Thanks!

That's good to hear. I hope the haptics are truly being utilized. Apparently the star wars PSVR2 demo that previewrs got to try gave every weapon a different feel through the haptics. This is a third party non Sony affiliated dev we're talking about so hopefully vertigo goes balls deep into haptics as well.

Quest 3 will probably (according to leaks) come October 2023 so if you can wait that'll be a lot better than quest 2 thanks to pancake lenses (you'll actually be able to see the edges of your screen). Plus the Quest 3 might have Wifi 6e, which would seriously benefit wireless streaming.
Virtual Desktop is the best for wireless, but it's $20. Air Link is pretty good and is free, but I can't get the same bitrate as VD without stuttering. I never actually got ALVR working because it's a pain to set up, but it's FOSS at least. Link is great, but not worth the wire IMO (even for seated VR, it's just annoying).
Boneworks will get you sick, lone echo gets some people sick, and they can stand in VR so you're probably screwed. Just grow your VR legs already

Bonelabs is a quested version of boneworks. Worse graphics, less content, smaller levels, even the physics were simplified noticeably. They banked on the game being carried by mods and even tied this into the story. The entire game is a tutorial for movement and that's about it. I honestly cannot recommend people even try it.
Also worth noting the game's controls do not allow you to jump or crouch reliably on vive controllers.

This could be very good "lube" title for friends and family new to VR but I'm afraid It's gonna be too short. Their PSVR1 game was only about an hour long but apperently had a decent story. I hope everything in this trailer isn't all mashed in one level for the sake of playtime. Just watched a couple minutes of playthrough from the first game and wow its pretty sickening(as in subject matter not motion sickness). Very cool. I hope that it's there and they're just holding some of it back in the trailer.

5 player co-op? Most I can think of are limited to 4. Pavlov has some good zombie modes but you already listed that. VTOL has >4 player custom PvE missions. You could play Zenith as a 5 man group and steamroll everything. VRChat has different co-operative worlds that support that many players but I'm not trans so I can recommend any. Vox Machinae technically counts if you fill all the other slots with bots.
Somewhere in the middle of PVE and PVP you've got Climbey.
Team based PvP other shooters like Contractors you can stack a team in the lobby. Hyperdash when it goes f2p should get enough players for you to play as a 5 man team.

Ok lmao what the fuck is this??? The excuse previously was slower bus speed and shit. Now that's not an excuse, yet AMD is still garbage for VR as usual. There's no way it's this bad. It has to be a driver issue. It makes no sense. The hardware specs are literally there. It's so bad lmao. Maan I was so ready to ditch my 6900xt, but this is just garbage. I don't want a to buy a 4080 either, it has good performance, but it's an overpriced scam. 4090 is for retards. Jesus christ what the fuck is going on? What a disaster. I'm sure a driver update will improve the performance, but I have big doubts that it will compete with the 4080. Why do these 7000 series cards even exist? Literally. People only need performance for VR, and if it's bad at that then why? You don't even need a 6000 series for flat gaming, let alone this overpriced shit. Holy shit AMD kill yourselves.

I have the chance to get a new VR headset, should I get a quest 2, yes, no, why?.
I would go for the Valve index but I've seen too many people having issues with it, either with the controllers, or the cable, or with the headset just breaking, and I'm not willing to pay for something that will break within the year, and can't get RMA due to 3rd world country.

I have the original vive with index controllers + FBT at the momet, beeen rocking the vive for at least 3 years, so I'm checking what's out there.

If it's more of the same the Index seems like the obvious upgrade path. Maybe Vive Pro 2 as an alternative if RMA or the possible upgrades matter more than price.
Quest 2 would be if you want something different. Wireless, access to standalone games and casual usage outside of your VR room. With all the issues a hybrid setup has you'd still be better off using your Vive for games with FBT.

I have two reasons: the first one I wanna try something new, the second one, I'm growing a bit tired of the vive, is slowly falling apart and is starting to feel uncomfortable to use, one of the controllers don't work and even if I have index controllers, one has a drift issues and playing any kind of vr game is just annoying.

90% of people are using an index. No headset will last, index lasts one of the best now.

What you're looking for is actually availability of parts and warranty. Other headsets actually have this same problem with parts failing (eg cables, controllers) but then you have terrible RMA processes and spare parts are hard to get. Index parts are available and the warranty is solid.

I don't see an issue with Meta. I had a good experience with their RMA process and I haven't came across an issue with the spare parts. At least with the Quest, youcan rely a lot on 3rd party stuff rather than it being all from Meta. I can buy a 3rd party router to easily play wireless, I can buy a 3rd party cable to play PCVR, I can completely customize my headset's comfort/audio solution and controllers with 3rd party accessory.

Well the quest is the exception but I was mostly talking about other headsets like the G2 or the pico or the vive pro 2; there honestly aren't many headsets to choose from. If you want to upgrade from a vive, go index. Quest 2 will feel like you messed up.
Anonymous No.410951458 Replies: >>410952856
The Quest is still a resolution and lense upgrade from the Vive but if you don't touch standalone or play any games that significantly benefit from being wireless then it's going to be a sidegrade at best.
90% of people here would choose an Index because they're only interested in PCVR or spend most of their VR time in VRChat. Chances are you are too.

I have the quest 2 with the pro controllers and I honestly don’t feel like I’m missing out on much. I do own the index but I’m not a fan of the comfort of the index and the thick cable being very noticeable isn’t really for me. Audio is great though but the visuals is pretty annoying with the glare especially if you’re watching a video. It’s awful, and I don’t want to play this rng game where I keep on returning the headset until I get one with less glare or maybe even more. Base stations are annoying, as there is delay each time whenever you start it up and it makes this tinnitus sounds when they’re on. In my room, they’re not even at the most optimized areas and I’d have to put them really high up but fuck that. I’m good with my meta pro controllers which require none of that. The valve controller itself only has the finger tracking that makes it stand out but everything else, I hate. How big and bulky it is, how cheap it feels, how you need two usb c cables to charge both of them, how you’re forced to wear the strap which makes me fucking sweat so much, and the economics aren’t the greatest.

im looking for some game recommendations, as someone with two specific criteria
>i have a reverb g2, so anything with a lot of fast movement and tracking is a no
>i dont have space at the moment so i play only in seated mode
im looking for something that meets this criteria. namely, something slow paced with some kind of exploration. i was thinking an adventure game or vehicle sim. i picked up assetto corsa as its only 4 dollars, and its kind of neat but not really what im looking for (im not a racing sim autist, and its also a pretty old game so the sights arent that pretty). i was thinking something like euro truck simulator, something i could just drive around and see the sights in would be nice, but ive never played it. i also saw elite:dangerous in the OP, which ive never heard of, and thought maybe it might be similar to what im looking for. really id take suggestions for any game that works well in seated mode.

and on a related note, another question: does skyrim VR work well in seated mode too, or is it just not going to work very well?

Skyrim VR is almost better seated. It doesn't require much movement so playing while standing still for too long gets uncomfortable. My refresh rate was 144 Hz, and whenever the framerate would dip, the reprojection would kick in, cut my framerate to 72 FPS, and cause a stutter. Accelerated walking doesn't mean walking fast, it means that there's an acceleration curve that gradually ramps you up to moving at max speed. I'm perfectly happy playing Serious Sam running around at 500 MPH but the speed curve has to be linear.

what am i in for? one of the main things im looking forward to is relaxing in comfy worlds solo on vrchat and trying out anime watching solo on it. ive been wanting vr for years, but i couldnt ever motivate myself to pull the trigger until now. theres been some vr games ive been wanting to try for a while now but i always wrote them off because i didnt have vr. is it still comfy playing sitting down? i dont have the space to play standing up.

We could see higher resolution/higher framerate displays to be used from now.

Every time I see anyone suggesting a VRmmo I get sad about how shit township tale is. Absolute primo crafting mechanics (including cooking) and the climbing tower is great but literally everything else is shit. Map is shit, combat is shit, mines are shit, "boss" levels are shit, the forest is shit, they removed crafting armour years ago and now only have cash shop cosmetic clothes, character models are shit, and the server client is so shit even on a vrg hosted private server it just couldn't handle more than 5 people in different places or travelling down the mine layers too quickly. Worst of all the devs just refuse to do anything other than update the cash shop cosmetics rotation.
I WISH it was good. Holy fuck I wish it was but god damn they need to redo the entire game.

Yeah, sadly we're gonna need to wait for a long time before each dev makes one part of the game that is actually good, and then we have to wait until a dev gets the genius idea to combine them all into one actual good game that would perhaps be worth playing
One thing I felt ever since I got into VR is that a Runescape style game would be the ideal candidate... The questing isn't dumb grind quests like WoW has, but instead puzzle/adventure/riddle type quests that are perfect for VR, combined with the actual chopping of wood, mining of ore, fishing, etc
It's just a perfect match

Yep, that's township tale. Carving the wood into items is putting it on a lathe and chipping out pieces in the correct order. The ore you throw into a furnace with a mold then heat and hammer it into shape. All the pieces are then physically assembled by hand too. Great systems but there are no quests or storyline to give it any purpose.

also theres the problem of how lots of players would be a huge strain on quest headsets so they'd have to limit the number of players per server/instance drastically or abandon quest and get few sales and very few players anyway

valve should be making some kind of cool ass hub for VR gaming like vr chat or metaverse, except make it not shit and not conducive towards trannies playing as cute anime girls who scare off all the normal people

Blade and Sorcery fags are the worst. They always tell you about how many mods there are etc. but it is just different weapons, skins, etc, nothing that adds to story or gamemodes.
It is ok that you like to play it because of power fantasies but don't act like there was any great content or value in this game beside that.

Same with Quest 2 users, yes for standalone alone it is great because of big store but it is a piece of shit hardware, there are better headsets for less money.
Quest 2 fanatics are like americans with their cut dicks, they think their cut dicks is the greatest ever but in reality they are just cucked and brainwashed.

Is it worth it to build a 4090 PC for VRchat, and other VR games sometimes? By my calculations here in northern yuropoor it would be about $4k, which is crazy, but I can afford it if I really want to.
I'm currently playing on a 2070 Max-Q laptop with a Reverb G2 (2K per eye) and it's quite laggy in locations with more than a few people. And I'm looking to eventually upgrading to something like Meganex (2.5K per eye OLED, if it's not vaporware) or similar, but probably not Pimax because of its size and associated QoL worries.

But main focus is on non-gameplay - storytelling, level design, lore, immersiveness (no HUD, not even subtitles), all of which I really liked
Second game adds more tools, more threats, hub world. Pretty good sequel

tl;dr looks and sounds pretty, gameplay is secondary, overall I liked them a lot

Like what? The headset was like 300 dollars and it offers the best standalone experience with great wireless options for PCVR and a lot of customization options for comfort. It also offers the best inside tracking without any base stations with the Pro controllers. I spent 600 dollars including the pro controllers and it’s nearly on par with base stations. People here paid 1000 dollars for the whole index package.

12900k/4090 here and did some testing in VRChat. Testing at around 5k x 3.1k per eye res, it was sort of a toss up. Sometimes, I was CPU bound, like real fucking CPU bound(50-60FPS in heavier Vket worlds with sub 50% usage on the 4090) and so the 4090 was kind of wasted. But in some worlds I was getting 90%+ usage even with 20+ avatars all right in front of me while still maintaining 60FPS+ at ultra settings, so the 4090 was definitely getting good usage there. But you'll want yourself a good CPU as my CPU was always getting hit heavily. Anything but Alder/Raptor Lake and Zen 4 or the 5800x3D is probably going to end up holding you back in VRChat.

Other VR games the 4090 largely trashed even at ultra settings with that res, so something like the MeganeX it'd handle great in the vast majority of titles.

The AMD chipset has issues with some headsets, last I heard, so you have to be careful with that too, but if it runs it'll probably run well. The GPUs, yeah, RDNA isn't really built for VR. Even when the raw performance is okay, there are more random drops and stutters when compared with Nvidia.

The 7900XTX is beyond buggy with VR right now. Absurdly bad performance issues to where the 6900XT trades blows to legit outperforms it in a handful of titles, flatout doesn't work with some headsets, and the Index not working with 144hz mode is a known issue several people have reported.

The 7900XTX is a retarded choice for VR. Try it again in 8 months.

I'm wondering if I should cuck myself with a 4080. I just want to be able to play in 90hz in VR man, nothing else. 16GB VRAM should be good enough I assume even for another few years, right? I mean what game with what headset will use more, even if I upgrade my G2 to the new Index headset when it's out...

It's probably enough, but in most places in the world the price difference between 4080 and 4090 isn't that big since Nvidia is clearly trying to upsell people to the 4090. But if you can get a good deal then why not, it's a good card, just overpriced as fuck and should cost like $800-900 instead of $1200 (and in reality ~$1500 in most places).

I mean yeah. The long and short of it is that this is the GPU market now. If you're in that rare % that actually needs to drive dual 3k screens or whatever the fuck then you're basically going to need to invest. An 850W is enough for a 4090 usually by the way. I'm also in Europe, with a first run G2 from that initial bestware batch, and yeah, the prices here fucking suck. But between 4080 for 1500 EUR and 4090 for 2000 EUR (which is _sometimes_ available) I'd go for a 4090 since at that point it's a 4K EUR PC anyway. Being yuropoor sucks, but at least I'm not in my home country where tech prices are even more fucked now.
I think 850W is actually good enough for 4090, no need whatsoever to use the 600W mode and undervolting/underclocking (don't remember which one it was for 4090) can even limit it to 350W with negligible performance loss. People run it with 750W even.

Multiframe "smoothing" is such a disgusting lagging artifacting garbage, it makes me want to go to dev's house and break his fucking arms.
The worst thing is that you cannot even disable that bullshit completely.

We're getting to the point where lower resolution HMDs are legit getting maxed out by high end cards and refresh rate limited. Hell, I'm playing on a Pimax 8k X and I'm refresh rate limited on certain games despite max or close to max graphics with a 4090, and that's dual 4k per eye. I think comparative benchmarks between cards are hard, but a performance showcase of it in some real world circumstances can be pretty useful when taken on its own.

reminder that if the game isn't running at your HMD's refresh rate: its a bad game and the developers suck
relying on ASW is a stupid crutch and I despite developers who operate thinking "this is fine"
pimax 8k x is out there for sure, I have a 5k super that can run up to 180hz which is pretty nuts but of course the actual resolution is much lower at that setting
we've been sitting around waiting for the hardware to throw in eye tracking and built-in system-wide foveated rendering for a while and so far only Pimax has really openly revealed any intention to do so (they already do it but DROOLON sucks ass so they're switching to Tobii)

I don't mind ASW existing or being a fallback, but what I hate is when a game's min specs just assume you'll be riding ASW all day. At the fucking least base the specs around trying to run at 90fps.

Fixed the stick drift in my left Quest 2 controller. Turns out there's tiny little metal contacts underneath the analog stick that make contact with the circuit board. These metal contacts start out curved, but as you use your controller, they start to flatten out and don't make as good contact, causing stick drift. Fixing it was as easy as disassembling the controller and bending the contacts into a curve again, but the design is such that I'm only resetting the problem for another year or so.

I don't think so, I think the Rift S/Quest 2 controllers and the Joycon controllers get stick drift for slightly different reasons. Take a look at this, here:
https://youtu.be/mDLT1LdX_ag?t=275
That part of the video shows you the tiny, silver contacts inside the analog stick. I don't know how you could modify those to not start to flatten after prolonged use. With that said, it's still a ridiculously easy fix, just bend them again so they make good contact, but it's just a rinse and repeat solution.

>blinding white
It's a lot of greys, and every surface has some form of material, typically concrete. Never had a problem with the brightness of the game on my Rift CV1, Quest 2, or Pico 4. What headset are you on?

steam REALLY fucking needs to add a separate category of VR reviews for games that have both VR and nonVR modes

you cant fucking tell if a game that supports both is at all good or not for VR mode since 99% of the time 99% of the reviews are for the nonVR mode
