If you start to feel sick when playing, stop and have a rest. You'll get your VR legs eventually, just don't push it.

We're actually progressing closer to the promise land, its just happening a bit slower than we hoped for
I can still think back to 2016 when i got in compared to now. Back then the headset was barely able to run at a normal framerate, all the games had to be simplified garbage to fit on low res dual screens. We could only dream of VR being able to drive full fidelity desktop games at 4k+.
Today we've practically passed that milestone with the 4090. Whatever game you can run on your desktop, can run on your headset at playable fps, (save a few overblown resource hogs at max graphics).
The only thing standing between us having our whole steam library as an interactive VR experience is some good conversion mods.
>>414298964
yea and its work that requires financing, meanwhile vr is far from being the hottest shit it was in 2016
>>414299453
patreon grifters are making good gains when they're not getting sued. Eventually a general pipeline for VR conversion will be established among the modders and they'll start churning them out weekly, with extra time freed up to work out the kinks and implementing extra tactile features.
Its never going to be as good as made for VR but it will be a huge expansion of good meaty content to play through, cheap as well cause most of them will be back catalog releases.

There are no games.I've check every single vr game released on steam in the last 4 years.
>>414308041
I like VR and even i have trouble with it. Its just such a hassle going through 5 extra steps to play vidya.
Although my problem is the playspace isnt in my room so i constantly have to bring all the crap out the door any time i wanna play roomscale, then haul it back after. And i dont wanna use standalones because they're subpar.
Jesus fuck, are VR controllers going to get bigger and bigger?

>>414316428
I've just got a room dedicated to it. Making it as much of a low friction experience as possible is key.
>>414308041
It feels like the core gaming audience's perception of VR hasn't changed since the Oculus CV1 and Vive.
>>414309483
So you looked at 4000+ VR games and ignored all of them?
>>414325683
Only ignored the complete trash, think "unity asset flip".
But overall, pretty much. You can count vr games worth playing on one hand.
>>414326727
Don't really need that many games as long as there are a handful I can keep coming back to.
>>414326974
Like what?
>>414327174
Arcade stuff like Thrill of the Fight, Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, and multiplayer games, Contractors, VTOL, and so on.
Also I really like adventure games and there seems to be a steady trickle of them.
>>414327174
Simmers probably have it the best right now. If you're into racing games and have a wheel + pedals, you can play a bunch of great VR indefinitely. Same for flight niggers with a hot ass.
Locomotion is a non issue and controls are tailor made for cockpits.
I wish i was more into the car racing, i have a decent setup for it but so many of the sim titles are sterile as fuck and made for tryharding. Even Dirt Rally 2 gets old despite being the most fun.
Hopefully Grand Autismo somehow escapes the PSVR exclusivity so we can get a decent casual option.
>>414308041
There aren't any skinnerbox timesink games for vr like there are for the number one low entry cost mass market gaming device currently on the market: mobile phones. I am waiting on township tale to get not shit and for something to supersede into the radius as best vr ambient looter shooter personally. When that happens I might be able to justify spending the money on an index to replace my ageing OG vive. The thing that stops me from playing a tonne of vr at the moment is the battery life on my 5 year old controllers and my knees fucking exploding.

>>414308041
Inherently high activation energy. You can't press a button and be in VR within 5 seconds. 5 seconds of setup time can be enough to dissuade someone from doing something ever again, even if they like it. Some make it even worse by keeping their headset disconnected in a box so they have 10 minutes of setup every time.

>>414359321

>>414354132

Palmer Lucky himself put it bluntly a couple of years ago: you can literally, unironically, give someone a headset for free and after they play it for a while they'll simply pack it up never to touch it again. Too much setup for games, that honestly just isn't worth it. Add that on top of accessories like FBT solutions or setting up wheel to your desk or whatever, and then it makes you wonder why you see vrgers just chilling in the vrg discord voice chats every single day. It's like me using my Switch: I don't like playing things handheld, I have to plug it into a monitor at least so that means a few minutes of setting up and then putting it off to the side. Needless to say I only touch it briefly nowadays when Splatoon 3 does events, but I wanna play more of the S&H expansions this year.
>>414401316

Quest 2 looks great, but there is still some artifacts in some scenes, particularly darker ones. It's definitely not bad, most of the time, but compared to a similar headset with a direct DisplayPort signal there is a difference.

Played a bunch of Breachers, it's really fun. Never played Siege so it's all new to me but the gadgets work great and swinging through a window is awesome. Only thing I don't like is the guns basically work like flatscreen games, the reloading is super basic and none of the mechanics of the gun are modeled. No +1 for a chambered round, and you can't even work charging handles or anything.

>>414403841
It doesn't have to much setup if you just plan it out. I've got my playsapce laid out so I just put on my headset, grab my controllers, and play. I'll take five minute breaks to go to a VR shooting range or something in the middle of a workday. The experience only has friction if you make it have friction.

But it still wouldn't have any games.
Jokes aside, at that point we would only be at rtx 5090 and it wouldn't be able to handle 12k.
VR is sandbagged by GPU's hard.
>>414464036
Look at modern consoles like ps5, they sell like hotcakes, yet there are still no games.
There is some bigger issue which prevent games from being made.
Not sure what exactly
>>414464742
The nose.
People talmbout how VR has no games, but AC, DR2, and AMS2 are literal games.
>>414465063
I want more non-cockpit games on par with Alyx.
Started Walking Dead S&S tonight and it feels jank by comparison, despite being so highly recommended.
>>414465510
It is a bit jank but it's a vr game that is good. Alyx has the misfortune of being polished by valve, so is an absolute masterwork. But they polished a game full of VR misunderstandings so it loses a lot of impact that way. S&S has a more solid base but it isn't as polished.
>>414464742
No exclusives you mean, because it's way more profitable to make a NOT ps5 exclusive right now. PS5 has plenty of games optimized for it and full backwards compat with PS4.
>>414466474
Even exclusives aside.
AAA games are completely dead. It's so bad I wouldn't want to play them even if someone paid me to do it.

>>414473219
Do you like femdom?
>>414466767
Alyx was designed for teleport move and other safety things like motion sickness and not being too scary and stuff like that. The combat arenas are all designed for teleporting from cover to cover and not smooth motioning between them. Transitions to other areas/jumping/crouching etc is handled by a teleport. It makes purposeful decisions to never put you on a moving platform or vehicle (with windows) and the entire pace of the game suffers for it. The pace in S&S is pushed down by being mostly a stealth game, and having segments where you have a limited amount of time in an area.
>>414473765

Koikatsu, or if you really hate yourself you could get VAM
>>414479793
I tried Koikatsu and Honey Select after VAM and couldn't do it. Yea, VAM doesn't have gameplay and has an atricious interface but everytime I learn something new I am impressed or laugh my ass off. Plus with the right light the characters look pretty realistic.
I just learned how to import MikuMikuDance files into VAM so I got models flailing their boobs around while dancing to whatever I can find.
>>414481773
Is there much clipping and jank with the MMD animations in VAM? I used to play them in Koikatsu Studio and even after tweaking characters and settings there would still be some.
>>414481773
is VAM the type of game where if i put a body tracker on my crotch it can simulate me clapping cheeks?
>>414466767
Basic stuff like having your gun glued to your hand and switching weapons with a floating menu.
>>414484102
I only tried two songs, unforunately there was a little jank to the movement. I think you are meant to clean it up through timeline, but that's hard for me to do one-handed.
>>414484181
Yes. I just 3d printed an attachment that attaches a controller to a fleshlight in place of a tracker. Its supposed to have teledildonic support too, but that's been a little janky for me. I will have to sit there and figure that one out.

>>414488474

>>414501128
I've been playing it. It's like a casual, less bloated Rainbow Six Siege. Similar to Hyperdash it runs well and the art style makes it look decent despite the Quest 2 friendly assets. Textures on the guns look much nicer on the PCVR version.
The way sound muffles through walls and in the distance seems a little off to me but it does make you feel trapped inside while the enemy closes in around you. Breaching walls and bypassing traps is great when it all comes together. The vault mechanic is surprisingly good too, you can vault through windows as well as onto many tables and objects inside the building.
Gun selection is okay, I think it needs more mechanical variety as right now everything is automatic or semi-automatic. Reloads are simplified too so no pump actions or charging handles, just place a new magazine in and wait for the small delay.
I like how dead players can freely spectate and ping locations but only see items or enemy players that are visible to teammates, it makes the downtime less boring.
The Alpha is limited to 1 map but devs have hinted at more being added. There are 3 possible bomb spawn spots so there is some variety but after a few hours playing I've already figured out some of the strongest places to use the gadgets. I do wonder if a few more maps is enough for this kind of game. Siege became so bloated because it needed a stream of new stuff to keep the formula feeling fresh.
i got a pico 4 for PCVR to try it out, but it turns out there's no way to connect this to your PC via USB without first setting it up with wifi, is there? at least i cannot find any setup guide that doesn't involve connecting to some wifi shit. so i'm stuck at the wifi network selection screen while setting up.
i'll probably just return it if i'm forced to fuck around with wifi to use the thing

3 bomb spawns but also 3 attacker spawns which is interesting. Thing is with a game like this you can really only begin to play it once you know the map like the back of your hand.
>>414503975
ok nvm managed to get past it by using my phone as a hotspot. but now it wont let me use streaming assistant until i update my headset, which would take 11 hours using my phone lol
>>414503873
Did the more general destruction feature of Rainbow Six Siege matter that much? From what I saw of the game, it looked more like it turned into a hero shooter.
>>414512075
That level of destruction in a competitive game inevitably led to all the fun being sucked out of it. A common tactic was to use individual bullet holes as spy holes and spray through the wall at anyone you saw move past.
>>414513524
I love it when unconventional tactics are taken out to make a game more streamlined, "competitively viable", and the same as every other game in its genre.
page 10 pity bump
>>414517134
Only removing random stuff makes a game more competitively viable. Competitive just does whatever is effective, there's no such thing as an unconventional tactic. If a tactic gets removed it's because the developers didn't think it was fun. Sometimes they're wrong and make stupid choices but blaming it on "competitiveness" is misplaced.
Tell me about your VR accessories or mods. Let's see whats worth buying or not.
Im considering getting cable pulleys for my cable connection, but ive heard mixed reviews. Maybe also a gun stick controller holder if i find one that is easy to swap out without pausing.
vg is fast today.
>>414540796
> https://4stats.io
/vg/ right now is actually quite a lot faster than /v/ and almost as fast as /pol/, it's gonna be hard to stay afloat
>>414540792
only one i've tried and can recommend are the vrcover replacement gaskets for the index. the fake leather is nicer than the index cloth imo.
>>414544139
Half of the generals are glorified anime-girl fapping clubs, jannies seriously need to separate those into a seperate board to ease the pressure.
Otherwise /vrgg/ needs protected status cause its covering the whole VR gaming genre, but thats not possible without pinning.
We need a vr board. Really need a breeding ground.
Maybe go conquer /vr/?
>>414546474
They made /vmg/ which could have solved the problem but it doesn't allow generals for some fucking reason. /vrg/ just needs to be much more lenient to slow threads. That or a VR board, some people might say it would be too slow for that but we still have /po/ so I don't really see a problem.
I will never understand why the gacha threads are so popular.
>>414548472
Gatcha probably needs its own board and to be banished there. Though speaking of which are there any vr gatcha games? I played a bit of granblue back in the day but I can't imagine how you'd get that kind of gameplay loop into a vr game.
>>414540792
I've looked at gunstocks for years. Those assholes at Protube charge way too much. I printed this just to see if it worked. It does in fact work, you just have to get familiar with sliding them together when in VR. While its not a real stock it creates a solid grip which improves your accuracy.
Just trying to find a way to attach them without messing up the finish as they have.
>>414556654
How well does reloading work?
>>414557980
I did not have any issues in Contractors VR. Pistols in H3VR were a problem as they would hit the 3D prints parts because of how precise he has the reloading animations. It also loses its effectiveness with pump action shotguns or lever action guns.
>>414556654
Wish there were more options for knuckles. Can find tons of cheapo stocks for oculus controllers.

how in the fuck would you reload at all using a gun stock when you cant move your ingame hands

i have a cable pulley thing and its pretty fucking great. should have gotten one a long time ago.
i also have a little USB fan that plugs in the index which helps keep it from being so hot on my face, and i got a set of leather wraps and a leather faceplate thing so everything that touches my head doesnt absorb sweat and feels cooler than all that cloth shit it otherwise would have. its so much fucking better with all this and its not more than $200.

Yea I have thin face pad for my VP2 thats practically mandatory. But not enough people mention attaching a fan to that thing. I saw one guy mod it on reddit and did the same to mine, its likely saved me from a lot of the overheating issues people have with the headset, and its barely noticeable despite the slight bulk.
>>414572926
its so much better. i never get nausea but i get disoriented a little when i get hot sometimes, i wonder how much motion sickness or disorientation would be averted if these headsets didnt insulate your head with extra heat or people used icepacks that fit onto the headset. that would be especially useful for games where you break a sweat

>>414601020
Look, get this. I was in one of those, what do you call em, Virtual Reality headsets? where you're inside this other world and everything?. And im telling you, this technology is crazy.. but of course we had this back in the 60s, the CIA definitely had it back then.. but they're finally letting it go out into the public... and ..well you gotta see it for yourself.
One of the first things, get this, one of the first things you do in these so called artificial worlds, these video games as they're trying to pass them off right now..is teleportation, yes thats right, and i know what you're thinking 'oh geez Alex thats cause you dont have legs how else will you get around'.. no but thats not the point, look at how difficult it is today, look at all the things humanity can do, and yet in our first simulations, the first act is.. to teleport? And this is impossible in real life, we're building skyscrapers but we cant jump through space, what does this mean, what are the artificial limits of our reality!?
But no anyway, we cant bother with those questions, sports ball, celebrities and this globalist mind virus is keeping us distracted...BUT KNOW WHEN THE TIME COMES, YOU WILL ALL HAVE THINGS FORCIBLY STRAPPED TO YOUR HEAD AND YOU WILL SEE THE LIES THEY TOLD YOU, BUT IT WILL BE TOO LATE.. im sorry, it just makes me mad sometimes

These might be pretty good on their 3rd or 4th iterations. Right now i just feel that Natural Locomotion is the best solution for how cheap, simple and unobtrusive it is.
Played through Alyx just swinging my arms and it was much better than joystick or teleports. Wanna get the feet involved but its such a hassle getting extra trackers.
>>414610452
Natural stick locomotion does it good enough for gamers that have had a controller in their hand since they were 4; the swinging is fun at first, but it becomes annoying fast because while you swing you cant do anything else with your hands. And dont get me started on teleportation - who ever thought that would be a good mechanic. I always thought it was a performance and ressource thing, but apparently there are greaks that prefer teleportation
For me it's the human analog stick.
>>414610923
There was like one guy who used to be at Valve who insisted that he could never adapt to stick movement and that it would always make people violently ill and I blame him for all of the bad decisions that plagued early VR.

I guess he was respected in Valve, and with their weird "flat but not really structure" everyone was afraid to oppose him. I also blame Half Life 2 movement, I guarantee you that first VR test were done with the same acceleration and momentum prone VR movement as Half Life 2.
In Half-Life 2 VR I felt a bit quesy with the weird motion response, althought I have no motion sickness in any game usually. (They patched out to more VR friendly movement). I kinda understand how somebody not used to VR can get sick in a first generation test build with low framerate and that movement.
>>414625212
>In Half-Life 2 VR I felt a bit quesy with the weird motion response
It still feels to slow
>>414626061
You might be misremembering because you, like any respectable pc gamer, played on very high FoV, which causes increased sense of speed.
Half Life 2 VR is definitely as fast as original, you couldn't make some jumps if it wasn't. The issue for VR is the acceleration ramp and momentum, which they got rid of in a later patch.
I have a tech question for you guys
I have an almost ancient Alienware R4 with a Vega 64 and a 3930k
It's a pcie 2.0, ddr3 motherboard, would a newer motherboard with ddr4 memory and at least pcie 3.0 make a big difference, or should I just go all in and build a whole new PC?
I'd likely need a new case to upgrade the motherboard anyway.
>>414626595

Here for the first time, bought a really early used VR headset(CV1) for cheap a few months ago after being skeptical for a long time and figured I might as well check this thread if anyone's playing anything good.
YMMV with a less clunky setup but some of my bullet points regarding this topic would look a little something like this:
* Unless you've mounted the sensors/whatever your headset needs somewhere convenient, it's a lot of setup time to install/uninstall your VR environment.
* Not everyone has the kinda space to spare to play VR comfortably even if you do manually install/uninstall your kit everytime.
* Despite the aforementioned points and the overall large investment necessitating a certain enthusiasm for it, most VR games seem only "okay", and a lot seem kind of on the casual side. Either very short/focused games or games that almost feel more like humorous social media virality bait dense on "VR hijinks" and thin on actual substance. Currently I've played Beat Saber the most because that feels almost like a really good Wii-era rhythm game, a game like that would be super popular with casuals I reckon if it wasn't for the barrier of entry(and probably the relative inconvenience of hotseating)
* Most games that aren't thinner than a silk thread tend to be some version of shooting/slicing gallery with swords/guns/throwables that seem to all play vaguely similar. If you don't like one or more of these gameplay styles, your selection shrinks considerably.
* I'm nearsighted and my glasses don't fit behind the lens. Again, YMMV depending on device(and this is probably fixable with a peripheral/different lens), but it's another barrier to consider.
* High intensity games are straight-up just cardio exercises.
* I suppose if you wanna play porn you gotta be comfortable with the fact you've basically just put on a blindfold and earplugs and that you're jerking off two pieces of plastic instead of your own joystick. Never tried but sounds awkward.

That's why lots of headsets have inside out tracking.
>I'm nearsighted and my glasses don't fit behind the lens. Again, YMMV depending on device(and this is probably fixable with a peripheral/different lens), but it's another barrier to consider.
There's companies making prescription lenses for most headsets nowadays, so that's not really an issue.
>>414738545
>That's why lots of headsets have inside out tracking.
If there's headsets out there without that setup, then fair enough. Just saying, if you have a headset that does require you to do this shit, and you can't just keep everything set up past the first time so it just works subsequently(which includes freeing up that space in the room), it's gonna be extra legwork every time.
>There's companies making prescription lenses for most headsets nowadays, so that's not really an issue.
Yeah I said that, but it's an extra purchase you have to hassle with, and you may have to swap the lenses regularly too if you share the device with someone(assuming those lenses work the way I think they do and make everything blurry for people not on your prescription).
It's lots of little tiny things like that.
>>414735823
Space is more of a priority problem. People need to make space in their home for other activities and they'll do so for VR if it becomes enticing enough.

>Content and discoverability because there's not much good stuff but it's also weirdly difficult to find the good stuff that's out there.
I disagree. People are fucking starved so they are actively search for things (me included) and everything half-decent that they find is amplified massively (think ItR for example).
>>414830729
If you have to actively search then that's a discoverability problem. Into the Radius is quite old and people know about it, but for example I really liked Wanderer from last year and I'm not sure if I've ever seen it come up in a discussion. I think it sucks that a new VR game can come out like that and yet I don't find out about until many months after release when I'm actively looking for new games.
>>414831332
>but for example I really liked Wanderer from last year and I'm not sure if I've ever seen it come up in a discussion.
What? It's very popular by vr standards, look at the number of steam reviews for example.
The thing is, single player story games are played on the release week and basically "forgotten" after.
And that's not even specific to vr.

LOL, so immersive!!!!
I really wanna get vive trackers just for the feet locomotion and the gimmicky shit in other games.
But that fucking price man. And the cheaper ones suck too so i dont wanna compromise.
I wonder if Valve will figure out a cheaper version, but then I suspect they'll just go inside-out for their next hardware including body tracking and make the lighthouse ecosphere nigh obsolete.

>>414881107
I aim better with optics
>>414882342
Right now in VR the sights and the target are all in the same focal plane. With future varifocal optics that might not be the case anymore and like in real life you either focus on the target or focus on the front sight (and the target is blurry).
>>414881602
Only one of those statements is true.
>>414882867
That's probably a sure thing. Although I do feel like I'm a bit better with iron sights on pistols as an emergency so I'm not wasting time searching for the red dot. That is if the game doesn't have a huge reticle option like Contractors or Vail.
>>414881107
Pistols I'm fine with. Rifles forget about it. I have more success point shooting.
>>414883173
How does the varifocal lens even work in a situation like this? If you're looking down the sights of a gun how would it know which sight you're focused on or if you're focused on the target? I get the feeling that might fuck things pretty bad.
>>414888307
Needs a high enough resolution eye tracking solution to resolve it.
>>414888529
>>414888307

How to I prevent bricking when sideloading pirated games?
>>414881107
Awful but I am european, we don't have guns How are you supposed to use iron sights? I always get double vision, is it my IPD?
>>414900506
You're supposed to see two images, but if you're having trouble focusing on the aligned one, you might be cross-eye dominant. Which makes it a bit awkward in VR to aim with both eyes open.
>>414900506
The low resolution and everything being the same focal distance away makes them artificially difficult to use in VR. You probably have weak eye dominance too, which will make the wrong image visible when a gun is partially obscuring an eye. You can partially close one eye, or learn to manually switch which eye is dominant.

>>414854812
my guess is someone will make imu based trackers that will work just as well as vive pucks in about 3 years time.
>>414934409
IMUs are fundamentally limited by the math involved though. Something needs to correct the integration error. I'd sooner believe that someone figures out how to do good enough body tracking through downward/inward facing cameras on the headset and controllers without any extra tracking hardware.
page 10
>the best high res, high fov, best colour and blackest black contrast headset could get in your hands tomorrow
>you would still be stuck with a library of roblox tier dogshit and arcades
We need some kind of super high graphical quality mandate to be imposed for VR. Even if the majority cant run these games today. They need to start development now to be ready for release by the time these headsets become the norm.
I think one of Zuck's greatest mistakes was funding an ocean of mediocre indie titles instead of setting aside a few hundred million to build some real mindblowing VR apps.
The strategy of making these cheap gimmicks affordable isnt good enough. Its time to make people think 'hey, i wanna save up a couple of grand for this expensive thing that is going to let me explore a reality thats greater than my own'

Build it, and they will come.
The metaverse was the last straw as far as im concerned. Everyone rightly laughed at Zuck's crusty mobile game tier virtual world.
We need something compelling enough to make people give up serious disposable money, the kind of money that would usually go to golf clubs, bicycles, hifi audio systems, fancy furniture etc.
To do that you need to be presenting close to holodeck tier apps, pandora planets, hyperrealistic bladerunner cities, HL:Alyx as a baseline vidya instead of a standout, normie virtual party meetups except they look like they're at the met gala with celebrities instead of a furry second life convention.
The niche is tiny because almost everything sucks right now and normies arent going to buy a $2000 headset to play 20 polygon minigolf for 5 minutes.
If Apple are smart to this they could unironically step in and take all the marketshare right now with just one killer app. And Meta will be pissing on the side cause they've spent the last 5 years trucking shovelware for billions of dollars.
>>414989036
>normies arent going to buy a $2000 headset to play 20 polygon minigolf for 5 minutes
sure, but they might spend 300 on it and bring the capital needed to build blade runner cities and holodeck shit; and a portion gets hooked from 20 poly golf and ends up here or at the furry convention with a 5K set up
>>414983886
Everything that releases these days sells peanuts so it's easy to say PCVR is a tiny niche with no market and no money to be made but Alyx seems to have sold extremely well and is still selling well to this day. It's not like that market just disappeared. I know 5 normalfags that all bought Alyx and now just have headsets collecting dust because nothing that releases these days is even remotely close in quality.
If a decent dev team is willing to work on a VR game there is money to be made but outside of Valve nobody wants to take the risk.
tonight is pavlov
>>414992484
Not no market, just a tiny one, with potential giant growth, the question is if it is the slow or fast case, and guess the latter seems more likely.
What I am mostly criticizing is that the quality of games isnt even that bad as this remanents of /v/ discordianism seems to suggest, its just less every year 5 AAA titles and more small growing dev teams potentially becoming behemots one day expanding their games, and here you make a good point, Alyx is now nearly three years old and still gets new reviews from paying customers, same goes for the rest of steams popular vr games ranking with titles from 2018, technically 2011.
The strategy isnt even that bad it generates a slowly growing customer base, keeps the existing hooked with small updates and attracts new ones, while the dev teams can build a war chest to take on bigger projects.

The "article" is based on complete speculation. Just because he is a dev, doesn't mean he is competent, especially considering how "easy" psvr1 was.
It's very unlikely sony will go out of their way to lock down the headset, they are not subsidizing it and other products were easily usable on pc (dualsense even provides mic and headphone jack drivers by default for example).
The only real issue i can see is the tracking software, but I think it can easily be solved the PC way, aka throwing more processing power at it.
TLDR: wait till release, retards.

>>415307373
PCVR will keep it's mods. The potential for IP infringement is the big issue to Sony, they're extremely restrictive even in their own games like the LittleBigPlanet series. Skyrim on Playstation had to be kept in a walled garden which is why the Xbox version had better mods.
They have a few options:
>Update the modkit with a pack of assets to build levels from, blocking all third party assets on PSVR2 uploads
>Whitelist original PCVR maps
>Outright purchase popular third party maps like they did for Industry
>The first option but with whitelisted third party assets or packs

The VR implementation has gotten decent with FRIK and even little things like Better Scopes VR. The shimmering and performance can be annoying, but the DLAA/DLSS mod should fix that for good soon. I'd say it is worth it. Even as the worst mainline Fallout it's still better than 99% of VR RPGs.
Done with Breachers.
Shitty netcode, garbage UI and faggot devs who push people to discord just to get basic info. How hard it is to display dmg values of guns and have basic bug submitting in the game itself? Why everything has to be in the fucking discord?

>pool noodle weapons are less jank than two handed weapons
Now this is a certified retard moment. I will admit, not being able to pivot the weapon around across your palm is pretty annoying and severely limits the range of swings but if you're unironically going to use GORN as an indicator of good melee combat in vr you need to kill yourself. That game was not meant to be immersive or realistic and it was made really early in vr so no one really knew a good standard for control schemes. Also the bendy weapons in that game was a means to give weapons a feeling of weight, not to accentuate lack of control when using one hand for a two handed weapon. Making your whole arm lag behind your irl position is the preferred alternative for making things appear to have weight in vr. Granted I don't like either of those options, especially in something like saints and sinners where your arms sway around so much it feels like you're drunk.

You are a nigger who just didn't play enough.
Once you get killed by an enemy who teleported inside while you were holding a window, only for that window to finally break 2 second later, you will understand.
It's not a ping issue, something is fundamentally wrong with the netcode. There is no other explanation for 2 seconds of peeker advantage.
>>415419893
I've been thinking it over because my current headset is the Quest 2, which was my entry headset, and I enjoyed it a lot. It just lags sometimes and I can see fps drops. Also for some games, it looks like I warped into a PS1 game, which is fun but I want to be able to immerse in hyper realism. I'm just not sure just how "hyper realism" the PSVR2 is.
>>415419451
Euro I'm guessing? I'm lucky enough to have a server within 12ms ping and for the most part, I feel like the game has effectively no peeker's advantage and the one holding the angle almost always wins.
>>415421391
>I feel like the game has effectively no peeker's advantage and the one holding the angle almost always wins.
The game relies on client hit detection. On average people are new so they don't know how to abuse the movement system yet, and hence move slowly, so it looks like the defender has an advantage, but that's completely wrong in reality.

I pre-ordered. I already own an Index and nearly every notable PC VR game, but I'm too interested in the hardware gimmicks of eye-tracking/foveated rendering, headset rumble, and adaptive triggers.
It's a shame how there's seemingly no way to track the DualSense gamepad, because games like Astro Bot and Statik are top-tier and should be preserved. I'm also bummed that the developers of Blood & Truth have seemingly all but dropped VR to make a live-service co-op action game guaranteed to flop even worse than a VR title. Apart from the repetitive interactions where you're lockpicking and unscrewing security panels, the game was really fun--despite the limitations of the Move controllers. Could've been an excellent sequel with the new hardware.

I think the HMD market needed some stability like that. The pace of new hardware was too fast and it made it unappealing to buy in. Quest 1 was obsoleted by the Quest 2 in like a year. For PC VR if you had an Index for like the last three years, you're basically sitting pretty. But around now would be the time I'd want a successor with generationally improved capabilities.
>>415655187

VR is bottlenecked by advancements in chip lithography process. Both standalone and PCVR.
We just don't have enough processing power to make new headsets worth it. You need $1k+ GPU just to max out Q2.
But even all that is irrelevant without proper vr games, and that kind is not going to be solved by new headsets or gpu. Focus on important things first.
>>415655320
You can have it. It'll cost you $1500 right now.
>>415655417
>You need $1k+ GPU just to max out Q2.
not true at all, rtx3060ti is plenty to max out q2 at decent fps and it costs few hundred bucks
also standalone can get rekt we won't have tech for good standalone for at least a decade, we need to focus on wireless pcvr for now
furthermore, you do not need 4090ti to max out 8k per eye displays because you will be using foveated rendering making the rendering power needed very similar to that of the quest2
>>415655735
>making the rendering power needed very similar to that of the quest2

You don't know what you are talking about. Foveated rendering gives you 35%+ "extra" performance max. It's not a silver bullet.
>>415655959
>also dlss will drastically
dlss is fucking useless trash. it barely works for flat games (picrelated). it's a fucking artifacting mess for blind retards. and if you are fucking blind, you don't higher resolution anyway.
for vr, it's "real pixels" or fuck off. or you end up getting blurry shit which only looks good at screenshots but looks like complete ass in motion (like ItR).

high fov systems are horrendous to make at VR specs, which are low cost, low total track, minimal number of surfaces
This is why most systems are single fresnel lens abominations. Pancake lenses, which are dual-lenses, are a step in the right direction since it can actually correct chromatic aberration, but they're still hilariously simple compared to smartphone lenses (pic rel).
The moment they can start doing aspheric/freeform lenses cheaply is the moment it pops off, since they're by design done to accommodate extreme situations like eye fov

the tech is almost there already, in fact it already exists at enterprise level we just need to wait for it to trickle down to consoomers like for example chatgpt did

VRchat tower defense map
>>415756371
i am tried of faggot thinking unity maps made with shitty udon for vrchat are "games" those are just sad gimmicks at best, they are not "games" not even close
>>415756510
The tower defense map in vrchat is pretty good.
Think of it like mods made for Warcraft 3
>>415756510
Final Assault isn't great but it's the only one I can think of. Mainly just balance issues that makes it bad though. If every commander had the basic set of units it would be fine but they don't. Air is next to useless because there aren't any anti-vehicle bombers for any but one commander while everyone gets anti air trucks that completely waste any flying unit. That alone almost makes the game exclusively a tug of war between ground units and gives very little alternative methods to break stalemates.
>>415710120
Did Saints and Sinners 2 come out yet?
>>415763571
Nope, should be in February, no concrete date yet
I don't have any webms left, here's a Horo
>>415764431
hope it's better than 1
1 was fine and all, but i wish there was more to the story telling than just simply
>go to a level kill some zombies, loot, and get a quick voice line on the radio, rinse and repeat
>>415653396
I like Iron Guard. It is a tower defense where you can help out yourself by controlling a plane with your hand and shooting things. Worth it on sale IMO.
>>415710120
We're getting a made-for-VR aliens game this year apparently.
Not gonna let myself get too hyped till we see the graphics. Has to be at least on par with Isolation graphically for me to get excited.
>>415771780
ty i liked it
>>415778036
>>415778663
i'll try but pic related
>>415778863
I don't think you understand the situation, you WILL have a good day today, are we clear?

Korbo.
>>415734132
PSP VR live and well
>>415771780
I've only been playing Breachers recently.
>>415763571
On Quest 2 where it didn't seem to make much of a splash. No PC VR yet.
Anyone play SkyrimVR at 144hz?
I am struggling to maintain 144 fps in exterior nodes
>>415806095
Is Skyrim VR good now?
I bought it year ago, but still never launched
>>415806095
>144hz
why even
>>415806095
depending on your mod setup, skyrim vr is the only game that requires a 4090. 8K Parallax with dndload, enbs and custom 1k texture mods? Don't try, the hardware to run it smooth at 144hz doesnt exist
>>415819209
NTA but 144 Hz looks and plays better. And honestly it's not even as good as I'd like it to be because even 144 Hz doesn't look smooth and continuous.
>>415820527
Not a richfag so I use a Quest 2 with a 2060 laptop, didn't know some headsets got to 144hz.
I usually play at 90 since lower than 80 is unplayable (flicker) and higher than that sacrifices too much visuals
>>415822907
>didn't know some headsets got to 144hz.
from mainstream ones, it's just the index, which is much easier to run than q2
>>415793523
The weapon balance seems very bad.
>>415824687
these are headshots
>>415824805
I tried the game. The revolver's recoil is absolutely ridiculous for the damage it deals and the shotgun seems useless. Everyone seemed to be using the MP5.
>>415806095
There are some of good mods for improving performance but even then maintaining 144hz is going to be hard, Skyrim VR just doesn't run very well.
>>415810045
Skyrim VR vanilla is dog shit but you can mod in proper VR functionality to make it really enjoyable.
>>415824687
It could use some work but it's something they're changing pretty frequently. Right now the Cyclone is the clear outlier.
>>415824916
They increased the recoil on the revolver recently because it was previously busted with its one-shot headshot. The Omen/MP5 is clearly the best SMG but all of the SMGs are honestly outclassed by the Cyclone anyway.
>try out stalker mod for ITR
>first area
>armored mimics
>sliders
>getting sprayed from across the map with automatic fire
>or just getting one shotted from a mimic with a tiger rifle
>no headlamp
>new helmet model vastly reduces visibility
This mod just feels like a giant FUCK YOU
>>415824916
Admittedly I haven't played for long but my experience has been the opposite, the revolver and shotgun are great. Eco rounds are really easy since you can just one tap people to the head with the revolver and the shotgun just deletes people.
>>415826131
Yeah the shotgun is actually good. At least the pump-action one. I haven't had any luck with the auto shotgun though.
>>415831541
Oh sweet.
>>415826023
I like the armored enemies, it makes you think about managing multiple magazines with different ammo types right from the start instead of waiting until the factory. It fits the NG+ feel that I wanted.
The latest version has toned down the armored enemies in the first area so it should be rare to see more than armored fragments or policement, still possible but rarer. Fragments can mostly be ignored and seekers don't require the use of AP as their head is always exposed, which you should always be aiming for given the 4x damage boost on weakspots.
Enemies also now have a chance to drop items on death making it sting less when you spend a ton of ammo killing them. It's a low rate but so far I've seen guns, artifacts and partially filled magazines drop from mimics. Together with the random loot it feels like I have just enough to run a few different guns without needing to use the store so long as I'm careful with AP usage.
The real big fuck you is that they changed the rift spawn time from 3 minutes all the way down to 30 seconds.
what's the scariest moment you had in vr
for me it's the indian-made spiderman web swinging tech demos from sidequest
falling isn't the scary part, it's the accidentally going straight up into the clouds at double
lightening speed
>>415840003
Probably having to press the elevator button while Jeff was in it. Or just getting jump scared in Phasmophobia.
>>414243727
its not over till the fat lady cums
>>415826023
It is. Grab the PP91 after you do the first mission and enjoy the 30 round mag full auto problem solver. The loading screen hints makes it really clear that the spawns are very random so each tide is different. If you're getting completely fucked, you can sleep until the next tide to reroll the spawns.
>>415832840
Nice tidy base. I personally don't enjoy the armor mechanic that much, I'd rather have it handled like a "normal" shooter (STALKER for example) where some enemies have higher resistance and you can choose to use more expensive ammo. I know the devs made this so you can't finish the game with hobo gear but I'd rather have it than the current system, although it didn't prevent me from clearing the game.
It's weird because I really like ItR but when I think about it I don't enjoy the combat that much considering enemy design, the AI or even the fucked up footsteps in buildings. I think VR makes it much more easier to forget a game's flaws if there's care put into interactivity and details.
>>415840003
first time I run into the fog in itr and spawned at night close to bolotky village with no flashlight. Crawled irl to hide under the train and died from web anomaly while panicking and trying to figure out where the shots came from.
>>415840003
Horror games usually don't get me but somehow Propagation VR did. At one point there's a lull in the action when the monster trying to kill you disappears but you can still hear his breathing nearby. Nothing happens until you look up and see him staring down at you through a hole in the ceiling, snarling suddenly before he attacks. Something about the atmosphere and build up to that moment with me not noticing the sound was coming from above made me jump out of my skin.
>>415810045
Best VR RPG for sure. Mods make it an actual good VR game. It benefits from there being lots of content, modded and otherwise (Play The Forgotten City) so you can get more than the four hour tech demo playtime that most VR games have.
>Mods make it an actual good VR game
Mods make it playable. It's still a trash game.
>>415900398
>He hasn't played Enderal
Mores the pity
>>415901226
Don't care.
It was proven countless times that skyrim players are retards with shit taste.
>>415899684
>Best VR RPG for sure
I really doubt on that claim, anon
Why do you think so?
>>415901420
Yeah, certain niches of VR tend to shill their shit too hard
Still angry i fell for "Boneworks > Alyx" meme
>>415902640
It is, with mods. Made for VR rpgs are unfortunatelly still mostly in the tech demo pahse
>>415903368
You still didn't elaborated anon
Sword fighting should be shit i think, so that leaves magic and bow playstyles
Vanilla Skyrim magic system is underwhelming at least, did it get better with mods by now?
It is Pavlov day!
>>415904560
Closecombat with any weapon is, meh, but it does the job. Archery and sneaking can be a lot of fun with the right mods and magic, magic is the best you can find in vr, especially with mods, with which you can get the entire "paint" your magic liek in the wizard, if you are a masochist, because its simply not fun to have to try to pint the same dam sign 10 times in a row before it works and the dragon already grilled you
VR game of the century is now on Steam
