after some troubleshooting I have learned some things

I need to spend more time overall with FBT I think, to get used to calibrating them faster, what clothes to wear, etc. So far it feels like most VR things in that when it works, it's amazing, and there is a whole lot of troubleshooting when it's not working.

The next major event is Friend by Friend on valentines day. It's the most popular /vrg/ event tied with Christmas, but it's entirely small groups or literal one-on-one. You don't need to do anything but show up with the thread password and there will be multiple instances running to fit everyone in. If you're say drinking to a silly movie, talking about the movie and the things going on in it is generally fine, though it's pretty rude to have a conversation not related to the movie at all when people try to watch

Also if you're gonna make a joke or observation try to be quick about it and be aware of how much talking has already happened, there are many cases where ill snap at someone who hasn't even said very much, but because they are responding to a convo that ive felt went on for too long they just end up getting the flak for it.

It's first of all one of the best 2D (I know right?) animations I have seen in the last years.
Then it is has really nice voice acting.
The story has some beats/tropes that are predictable and oh god I hate that they included a pop song, but everything has this nice "It's christmas and an act of good will always sparks another" bow tied around it so I can not ever be mad at this movie. It very much has a special place in my heart.

Now that the dust has settled, I'd like (You)'re opinions relating to the /vrg/ christmas party event anons.

Retrospective on decisions made for this year - and my own opinion on it:
1) The decision to have the wishlist hidden was partially good. We decided to release an anonymized wishlist instead and that worked too for quelling potential drama. - Excellent decision
2) The Exploration event to old Secret Santa Maps was also super good and created desire to join. - Good decision

3) Getting people more involved from other circles like NA and EU pypy made the community feel more whole. - Very Good decision
4) Cards being hidden at first until after speech and carol allowed for a rush of people wanting to share the joy of looking at each other's cards a more group activity. - Very good decision
5) Adding the activity at the start before the event proper gets going by getting coins, snowballs and building snowman - Very good decision
6) Adding the Bar area for simulated food and beverages acted like a comfy spot and campfire for friends. - Good decision
7) Simplifying systems by removing the camera system - ok decision
8) Clear promotion that avatar_ids, world_ids and gameobject props are placeable in the map - unsure about this decision as I fear it was extra work for the Secret Santas

9) New event flow seems to be good, keep it as the new standard - (?)
Start (30 mins chill) > Opening Speech (5mins) > Carol (5mins) > Card Reveal (30 mins) > [unique community climax action] (ex. pypy dance)


Do you agree on my musings above, what would be a good idea to add/subtract/continue?
What else did you like about the recent event and what are your wish for it?

Extra: Some one said to me to instead of making a unique new map every year visual wise, it's time to start building upon the map instead. Adding on to it per year but keeping the vibe to it. Would this be a good idea? or should we continue trying to create unique thematic themes per year?

That's actually a good reason that I didn't think of before. I was focused on making sure the santas are protected but maybe a litt bit too much.
We had multiple years of people using the wishlist as shitpost material, that's why the decision was made.
A compromise with what you want would be to only release the full wishlist AFTER everyone has signed up.

That would be the best compromise I can think of for next year.

You need to prevent the Oculus VR Runtime Service from running at startup if you don't want any Meta/Oculus processes running in the background. Restarting the service is a good way to fix issues with the headset too.

I'll help summarize it but in as on-topic way as possible.
1) VR event happens (Secret Santa)
2) A single person was deemed a leech free loader (not usually seen in VR lobbies or VRC instances)
3) said person actually finished 3 gifts physical, card and digital item
but sent it way too late except the physical one and the digital item they made a lot of people think is subpar and did not think of the target enough. They also needed to be bonked to actually submit something better which they did.
4) Said target got shiposted
5) I tried to defend him and in my anger called the initial shitposter a liar as I interpreted their statement wrongly. I still think the implications was there but I'll cede to this
6) There's a few more back and fort and the initial verdict was 1 week of less deadline if they join again. (This is unsatisfactory for anons)
7) So I tried to ask my friends again on a way to do this properly
8) Another friend got the good idea to forbid him from joining again until he shows up more to actual instances. I agree and was about to implement it
9) Another friend then suggested to just ban them outright until they repent instead. And they were very specific on not telling the pathway to redemption.
10) They made a the best argument so far and I agree with them.
11) Another friend pointed out that the initial said person was /vrg/ back in 2018 but has lost touch with attending the community.
12) He's correct but being active in the community is important for the Santas as well. I still think the best argument became banning them and seeing where it goes.

I don't know if you listed all opinions, but it seems like there was no friend who was voting for "let him have another chance" but at the very least 2 friends who voted for "he needs to be punished". Please remember these opinions for future cases. I hope this makes you think on your approach on how to react on bad actors in the future, as it feels like your friends were much more aligned with what the "wisdom of the crows" in the thread was thinking.
